Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

A nice Austrian resort for Christmas?

Can't see the Xmas markets being cleared away until around the 27 Dec at the earliest (to make way for the New Year's celebrations).

@bambionskiis, it's definitely worth keeping an eye on the snow conditions for the other Zillertal resorts and making the most of having the train station in Mayrhofen. We usually have 2 or 3 trips by train when we stay in Mayrhofen.

There are some great runs in Kaltenbach and Zell am Ziller.

@bambionskiis, get yourself to Innsbruck for a time if you want Christmas markets, there are plenty to be had there. This is a good resource

https://www.innsbruck.info/en/

Check out the City card, it can be good value.

And of course you can ski in the city itself on the Nordkette

If you’ve already booked, could you tweak outbound and go a few days earlier to stay a couple of nights in Innsbruck?

 Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@DB, I was surprised at that but it does say it ends on 19th with a nativity. @Jagerbull, I didn’t k is that was a train station there. We always take a day to go exploring so that would work well.
@ster, will definitely items keep looking at that. A great compromise if the market is shut in resort. Cheers.

@bambionskiis,

It is only advent in the forest that closes the 19th - it also only runs on weekends. Other markets, etc. Should still be on.
Im in Mayrhofen mid december. My list was all other places we considered. Mainly for Markets!

Just googled it - looks cool but would have terrified our kids when they were young. They’ll love it now though!

Krampuss is normally earlier in december, typically on the weekend folowing Krampuss day (which is on 05/12 this year).

@DB, 5 December is St.Nicolasday. Always.
Krampus is the assistant of St.Nicolas.
In some spots Krampus is related to St.Martin (11 november), or closer to Christmas.
But a ‘second’ Krampus is for tourists...

The tradition of St.Nicolas+spooky assistant comes in many shapes all through NW and mid-Europe. (The Germanic region mostly)
And the anglosaxon Santa Claus is an obvious offspin, transferred to Christmas

Definitely look out for it - it looks fascinating. It’s not a concept I’ve come across before.

A lot of schummeling going on in these ski resorts, next they will be moving Christmas dependent on the snowfall. wink
