Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Advice please: Overnight train to Scotland for a weekend (Aviemore?)

 Poster: A snowHead

Hi everybody,

On 12 February, two of us are planning to take the overnight train from Kings Cross to Scotland, for a couple of days skiing/ touring. We'll get the train up, ski on Saturday, sleep Saturday night, ski Sunday, return Sunday evening overnight. If it's wonderful conditions, great. If it's not, it'll be an adventure anyway!

A few questions for snowheads though:

- Can anybody recommend somewhere we can rent gear in Aviemore?
- If any snowheads are live nearby, and fancy a tour/ski, let me know. We'd be delighted to go out with you and buy a few rounds afterwards.

- I'm sure we can work this one out ourselves, but any recommendations on where to stay/ease of getting around very welcome! Since we are taking the train, we won't have a car.

Finally, I think the overnight train goes can go directly to Aviemore; I don't think it goes other places too, but I could be wrong?

Thanks,

Max

Regarding gear hire, i mean touring and avi gear in particular.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

The main outdoor gear shops in Aviemore hire touring kit. I would recommend Cairngorm mountain sports. As you won’t have a car just book some accommodation in Aviemore and get the bus to the ski area.
