Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Car rental rates for this winter?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Anyone found any reasonable car rental rates for this coming winter? I think due to various issues arising from the pandemic, rates seem to have doubled or tripled when I’ve got some quotes, even for non-peak weeks.

I've found the Europcar rates at Geneva are very good, better than I've previously paid. c. £300/week for a proper decent sized 4wd (e.g. VW Tiguan) or big estate (e.g. Skoda Superb)

If you join the loyalty scheme you get an automatic 10% off as well.

Been looking for a minivan for France. None listed, so will prob end up on Bens Bus.
Part of the reason I prefer Austria. Get of the plane, get on a train for an hour….

I found they were really high over the summer (I normally book very early) but have come down a lot over the last few weeks - this is for Geneva, though the usual comparison sites. I've currently booked 10 days for £270 (Geneva Swiss side, mid-sized car), which I don't think is too bad considering what's happened over the last 2 years.

Really? I’ve been looking here for the week from Boxing Day and the rates look more than I’ve seen in previous years and more importantly, virtually no cancellable deals.

They do seem to have come down over the past week, I’m looking at GVA for 10 days late November and they seem similar to 2019.
Summer is always more expensive, we paid £490 for an automatic estate for 10 days.

I had a look for the end of January and there was nothing available. Perhaps they will be made available later. Afterall 4 months away is a long time.

Yup, if someone would care to show me how to hire an estate car for 7 days ex SZG on the 20-12-21 for less than £450 , I’d be delighted Shocked

Interesting- looks like it’s cheaper to rent for 20 days starting 15 December than it is to rent for 7 starting Boxing Day. And fully cancellable.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Autoeurope are showing £377 for 20-27th. Always expensive from SZG for some reason. The same car is £100 less from MUC Puzzled

Had another look after this thread started and yes the cancellable deals are back. Booked a week for 27 Dec out of Geneva at a horrendous price but at least its a start and can now arbitrage if prices change and as I research more sites.

Might even end up taking the train if final destination and flight times allow!
