When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Chamonix last week of October

Hi guys

We are (hopefully) travelling to Chamonix for the last week of October - God/Boris/Macron willing Smile

Can any of you recommend somewhere within reasonable driving distance of Cham that will/may be open for some autumn skiing at that time of year please?

I’m relatively new to skiing so any info from more experienced and knowledgeable folks is greatly appreciated.

We have been to Chamonix a few times but never at this time of year - If anyone has any other recommendations for things to do whilst there they would be well received too.

You're a similar distance from Zermatt and Saas Fee around 2.5 hours from Chamonix as per google maps.

Tignes is around 2.5 hours also, and Les Deux Alpes just over 3 hours.

That's the main glacier resorts around there, but you'd need to check the opening dates on them all.

@NewSkiingDad, End of October is French half-term, Tignes and Les Deux Alpes will be busy.

Glacier 3000 (Les Diablrets) and Cervinia are our local glacier skiing (Not Zermatt/Sass/Tignes/LDA) and are about 2 hours away. If Cervinia is open it might be 10 min further, but a lot of it is motorway and the drive is relatively simple.
The Aiguille du Midi and Brevent (or Flegere) should still be open to get some sight seeing in, also punta helbronner on the Italian side.
Courmayeur and Aosta are both well woth the visit.
Loads of hiking of all levels.
If you are wanting short hikes with views / impressive location, dive up to the Emerson dam or Col du Forclaz and walk to Chalet de glacier along the Bisse (almost flat).
If you want some exitment with your exersize we have a couple of local Via Ferattas
