It's my personal favourite as well. Just waitng for my daughter to reach the magical age when we can take her as she is only 7 months old at present and the nurseries/creches have a minimum age of 2!!!!

johnboy, Of the resorts in Austria I've visited it's my favourite. Go for it. I recommend the Bauer Hotel but book soon otherwise you might not get in as they only go via Crystal I think. You could always try contacting them directly though. The food is excellent and the rooms are huge and quite plush! The heated bathroom floor is a nice touch.
We stayed at the Berger Sport this year and it was ok but I wouldn't go back to that hotel.
The mountain restaurants are numerous and very good. They are also reasonably priced. If you do go next year I'll point some out for you.

Best things about Sallbach are the reasonably priced 4* hotels IMO. The skiing is crusiey and great store is put in 'the circuit' which is linked well enough for most people, I would say except early intermediates in that they might struggle with one or two of the connecting runs. Long trime since I have been there so the lifts/runs might have been updated now.
Another great thing is the oompah band bars that you have to ski past on the way home into Sallbach. Have a few beers
and ski down late-ish and its easy to meet your gang there if you haven't seen them all -day. It might not be so easy to find them in the bar though as these bars are packed, packed...!!
A nice resort and good modern lift sytem.

JT, Sounds good. We're off there in half-term 2007, taking a niece and nephew. We're staying at the Alpenhotel.

We visited Saalbach in late February to early March. Overall we had a terrific time. I'd describe it as mostly an intermediate's paradise. Lots, and lots, and lots, of cruisers. I'm not sure it's ideal for advanced skiers or those looking for off piste. My wife and I are middlin' intermediates and I'm not sure there was much we wouldn't have been reasonably comfortable skiing. We only did one black, probably the easiest black in the valley, but I think we could have negotiated most of the black terrain (skipping the bump runs) without too much trouble. I also have a sense it might not be ideal for novice skiers. It looks like there's lots of nice learning terrain near the village but I didn't notice a lot of difference between many of the blues and many of the reds -- the 7K run down to Vordeglemm (sp?) comes to mind as having some sections that I think would challenge a novice skier. I think some of the blues could be quite challenging for those transitioning from real beginner terrain. I loved the Hochholm area. Nice modern lifts. Really lively apres ski. All of the mountain huts at which we ate were pleasent and had good food. Didn't find any that I'd call really special, but that may be because we were eating realtively light at lunch, our meals at our hotel were huge. We stayed at Hotel Ingondus (sp) and generally liked it, though we weren't happy with them on the day we departed. The town of Saalbach is quite compact and everything is convenient though I think Hinterglemm might be better situated to the best skiing. And I must mention that we met two snowheads (Andy and Linda). We skied with Andy, Linda, and David for about 3 days or so. Absolutely delightful people who made our trip much more enjoyable. All in all a great place.
