Up to 30cms (12 inches) of snow has fallen at Hotham and Dinner Plain resorts in Australia in the past 24 hours. A
blizzard has covered the ski resort in a dry, light, fluffy powder - a skiers' dream. Some snow drift areas are waist deep. There have even been reports of snow falling at altitudes as low as 1000 metres....
The snow started at about 9am on Sunday morning and it carried on snowing for almost the whole day.
The Australian Bureau of Meteorology has predicted snow showers to continue. The temperature has dropped and is officially at -4.7°C.
When combined with the 20cms snowfall of two weeks ago, snow flurries at Easter and 7cms a month ago, rarely has a pre-season been so good. The result is that accommodation bookings at Hotham Holidays are up by 60% compared to this time last year.
The official start of the snow season at the resort is not until June 10th.
