I have just been contacted by the chalet we had booked to say that she can’t honour our booking.
We are a group of 15 (7 adults, 8 children)
We have flights booked to Geneva and Grenoble across the group.
If anybody knows of anywhere suitable which isn’t now booked please can you help?
(I am now going have a cry before contacting all our group).

Sorry to hear that, Nicky. Being a cynic, I'm guessing they got a better offer they didn't want to refuse?!
Have you heard of the Solutions Room at Chalet Direct's website?
It's an easy way to post your requirements and get your details sent out to a load of independent chalet owners (and organisations I think).
Am not affiliated with the website but did find a great place near Portes du Soleil through there a couple of years ago.
Good Luck!

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks will try. The email said

So far all the alternative links she supplied are either too small or already booked (of course the too small could also be looked I just didn’t look into those in any further details).

You could split the party in two as a back up option if no joy for the whole group.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

So she was sub letting to you. Have you considered contacting the actual owner direct?

Yes this will be what we will need to call back on… all but 3 are all family.

@jafa, most chalet companies rent the chalets from owners and re-sign every year. Its precarious for everyone but the owners who make a ton.

Oh @NickyJ, I saw an email out about this on the Morz Valley email group. So sorry to hear its you! I do hope some good options come your way x

Thanks @Nadenoodlee, it is us.
So far only options are different change over day (flights booked!) or too small.
If we don’t get bit enough, I will start looking for close by accommodation to the not big enough.
12 of us are family, my family (4), my sisters family (6) and mum and dad. Then it is my sisters friend with her two boys. She is joining us as since getting divorced hasn’t travelled as didn’t want to on her own.

@NickyJ, have you tried booking.com? There look to be a few properties that might suit, but without knowing your budget it's hard to tell.

You know it makes sense.

What we were paying was 11 635€ catered.
Nothing from solutions room is anything like that low. Noticeably one chalet I had originally (in Feb) been in contact with for a possible 21 who had been asking €15000 but then came back saying they weren’t taking any bookings until the uncertainty had changed, has responded to my post in solutions room they now want €20000 for same week and numbers
So looks like catered is sadly completely out.
I have found one place in Alpe D’Huez via Sunweb and will be back to trawling VRbo etc.

This is sad news @NickyJ, I hope you get something sorted.
Be a little wary of booking large places on VRBO (make sure you do some reverse image checks etc...) as this site isn't quite as stringent as others when making listings and is notoriously a pain to update with correct prices and availability. Try to contact the owners directly as well (you may also get a better deal as VRBO is massively expensive for both the client and the seller.... massively!)
We haven't really started to steer any advertising towards the UK at the moment as we are worried about another 'situation' on the brew after the summer season (like last year). Gives a bit of a blank diary syndrome (which can be painful to look at!)
I'm sure you've considered sending emails to the tourist infos in the area etc..? This may be handy for self-catered availability.
Anyhow - good luck!!

@flangesax, thank you! Really do feel for you guys (and others who are trying to operate). If flights weren’t such a challenge for half term week, in theory we can reschedule flights to different routes “just” paying fair difference. With half term the fair difference is vastly more than normal week flight prices. However you have (somehow!) made me think to check we aren’t missing a trick.
Will start looking into that as well.
