Are worn out skis any use to anyone? My wife's old skis have wrecked bases and mine have run out of edge from so many sharpenings. Bindings are OK but old. Thought that I would ask before I took them to the tip.

Not really - and the bindings unlikely to be indemnified and potentially dangerous.
Put them out for recycling, imv.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Take them to the nearest recycling centre and ask if they can be recycled. If not - then they get dumped....or hung on a wall....or sold on Ebay for a Tenner.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I may be wrong, but I suspect that they are completely un-recyclable, like carbon bikes and other high-tech bits of kit made from composite materials. All going to landfill, although I have seen a few re-purposed as rather uncomfortable benches.

Yes - they can make very comfortable chairs n benches when done right - some of mine from years ago are in daily use at Concept Pro

@telford_mike, looks stylish. Not sure how waterproof that roof is?

@PeakyB, not remotely waterproof, but who cares, it’s a great bar and it’s indoors

Not skis, but
Ski boots
There’s a ski helmet there somewhere.

@NeddySkiGoon, could make quite the ‘alpine garden’ using old equipment then?
Add a few climbers, like clematis and honeysuckle, scrambling up old skis. A few taller perennials, like hollyhock and lupin, supported by distorted ski poles. A few jagged rocks, to symbolise the many I’ve skied over. Give it large and grow your tomatoes in a discarded gondola cabin.
What else?

@Haggis_Trap, love the cast iron bench ends!
Ski bench looks great. Is it comfortable to sit on?
|
|
|

Cast iron bench ends were saved from skip.
It's comfy enough to sit on, bit of a spring / pop to it.
One word of warning. Ski benches won't survive long outside. I made another one where the skis delaminated after couple years outside in the rain. So this one stays inside.

I've seen several places that had picket fences made of 50's/60's style skinny skis, but as mentioned that probably wouldn't work with more modern skis.
Anyway, my current skis like most not living in the mountains have been a dectorative feature for the last 18 months
