Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Canazei to Marmolada road open in winter?

 Poster: A snowHead

Hi,
am considering staying in Canazei and will have a car.

The road from Canazei, through Penia over to Malga Ciapela (SS641). Does anyone know if it stays open and passable during the winter ?

I've been there before but couldn't remember the situation, I had a feeling it was closed but we weren't driving last time so didn't get further than the lifts at Penia.
thx

I'm fairly certain that it is closed (but may be open depending on conditions.)

when you are there, you can check for closures in this site --- https://traffico.provincia.bz.it/

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I've driven over it in winter, so it's often open, particularly during a sparse snow winter, but obviously may be closed for a while after a heavy snowfall.

The name of the pass road is Passo Fedaia. Sometimes it can be closed due to snowfall, but is often passable in Winter. The hotels and hydroelectric facilities around at the western end of the lake mean that end is often cleared first, but can be closed longer on the Malga Ciapela side. There is a lot of concrete gallery avalanche protection alongside the lake.

As the road crosses from Trentino region to Veneto, these websites will have up to date info:

https://www.viaggiareintrentino.it/#/index/it

http://www.venetostrade.it/

Only in Italian though, you're looking for 'SS641' or 'Passo Fedaia', 'aperto' means open, 'chiuso' is closed
