Plenty done on the drive from calais but being from Oireland i get dumped at Cherbourg.
Heading toward Morzine , any tips for the drive?
Doable in one very long stint with plenty of rest stops? or much better to stop off?
Any preferable routes? or indeed any preferable stop offs? Bayeux looks really interesting to learn more about the D-Day landings but its not really far away enough.
Any help or pointers much appreciated and hopefully will help fellow Cherbourgers

We live 12KM from Morzine and drive up to near Morlaix every other Summer (about 1100km).
There's not much in it, but we have found it quicker and easier to go via Tours than via Paris.
The fastest we have done it is 10 hours (Subaru) and the slowest 17 hours ( 30 yr old defender).
Cherbourg, being slightly nearer, and further East might be better via Paris, but if its on the weekend of Paris half term, then I would consider going via Tours.

Bumping this thread.
Ferrying to Cherbourg and then driving to Les Gets this summer. Happy to stop for two nights along the way for some sightseeing. Planning to avoid Paris and Lyons.
What waypoints are recommended for Cherbourg-Les Gets route?

Beaune is a lovely, old town and is worth a visit en route. Troyes is even better, although it could be a detour from your route.

We stop at Epone Campanile which is about a 3 hour drive from Cherbourg. Then next morning head to Alps in one go. Coming back we stop at Caen Mondeville and do the D day stuff.

There is a fantastic "les routiers" in Beaune ( or used to be a few years back )

Not a great deal to see in Beaune, a few pretty roofs but essentially just a wine market.
I'd go via Bourges with its fantastic town center and historic cathedral. 979km and 10 hours driving (2x5 hours).
