Poster: A snowHead

Hi All
We're about to book the accommodation for a week in Tignes Le Lac in March 2022 (12th March). Our options in terms of flights are to fly to Geneva or Lyon. We will get a private transfer as the numbers in our group make this affordable enough and it has worked well in the past. Does anyone have any advice as to which would be a quicker transfer (Geneva or Lyon to Tignes)? The flight times and costs are very similar for both. Flights arrive and depart the following Saturday at approx 3pm. My experience of Geneva is that it's busy and the queue for security on the way back is pretty bad. I have used Lyon some years ago and seem to remember it was pretty ok.
We won't book flights or transfers for some time yet but half the fun is planning the trip! So any preferences for Lyon or Geneva?
Thanks

With no traffic jams Lyon is 10 to 15 mins closer than Geneva.
Not sure if border controls will add to the problem when leaving Switzerland.
Grenoble also worth a look, same distance as Lyon, but very few facilities airside.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Having 'had the pleasure' I would never describe Grenoble as worth a look...

Lyon route is via Chambery (so could look at that hell hole of a port).
So I would go for whichever has the earliest flight.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Thanks for the input. I should have mentioned that we're flying from Ireland so limited to Lyon and Geneva.
Transfers about €100 return more expensive from Lyon. Presumably due to added kms covered and motorway tolls?

@adriangrogan, Probably yes and yes!

Competition is likely to be a factor too. You can swing a ski bag without hitting someone offering resort transfers in Geneva airport, which means quite strong price competition (and lots of upset Swiss taxi drivers who still want to charge €€€ for everything.

@adriangrogan, from past experience and given the choice of Lyon or Geneva, I'd pick flying into/out of Lyon every time.

For Tignes, I do prefer Lyon but it's much more because for the 3 of us, car rental is a better bargain than bus/coach transfert.

Personally I'd go for Lyon. As others have said it is a bit closer to Tignes than Geneva. My reccollection is that motorway tolls are less from Lyon than Geneva. The reason for the more expensive transfer from Lyon is probably more to do with the fact that there is probably less competiton. Is the 100€ difference each way or return and is it per person?
I haven't been there for some years (there are far fewer flights to Lyon from our part of the UK than to Geneva and they are much more expensive) so one of the big pulls would be the novelty value. I have not experienced any queues at security at Geneva nor Lyon, but passport control at Geneva can be really slow. It has often taken over 30 minutes of queuing at Geneva.
