Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Skill Level: intermediate
Feet width: 110mm
Boots: 75 flex wide boots 27.5 mondo
Previous skis: rentals
Years skiing: 3. About 7 days per year
Goals: to improve carving and ski steeper terrain

Terrain: On-piste only. I would describe my local resorts, Thredbo and Perisher, as refrozen pack that's machine groomed in the early morning that becomes dry sugar snow mid-day to late afternoon (in the winter) or slush (in spring). Most days are blue bird days and I rarely get days where there are fresh dumps. Fresh snow seems to happen mostly in the evenings or in days that I'm not in the resort, so I'm not looking for a powder ski or anything like that.

Here are videos of typical Australian resorts. I only ski Perisher and Thredbo resort.

Just to be clear, are you looking to buy a pair of skis or some to rent?

Either way, there are loads of skis that would fit the bill in the mid 70mm waist width, not too stiff category.

I’d take a look at the Rossignol React or the Atomic Redster X lines - both series have everything from the super high-end vindaloos all the way down to the chicken kormas. Something for everyone. I’d pick one in the middle somewhere. You want something that you can progress on but not something that will intimidate.

Make sure you get something with bindings included as well, you don’t want to be adding another layer of complexity.

Truth be told though, pretty much any major ski manufacturer will have something that would fit the bill. Volkl, Salomon, Dynastar etc. See if you can get a good deal on any of last year’s stock or even eBay as lots of people buy these things and then move on to something else after only spending a week or two on them.

That’s my two cents anyway.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Head Magnums are generally a great choice for improving carving. They are reasonably forgiving and easy to use, while still giving good headroom for improving.
