Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Best ski school for younger kids?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi Snowheads!
Which resort has the best ski school for young kids? Age 5 and 7. Myself, husband and 2 kids are planning to take the 5 weeks Jan - Feb to ski in Europe. We want a ski school that can take the kids regularly to give them some fun, lessons and give mom and dad a chance to ski Smile Bonus is a resort that is larger, has great snow and some good off piste. Also curious what the word is on the resorts next year? Will they be open? Any requirements from foreign travelers?
Thanks in advance!

Maybe Tignes or Val D'Isere - where Evo 2 is very decent and not mad money.

The more expensive ones are even better, like Mountain Masters, Progression Ski, TDC and New Gen....but Evo 2 probably represents the best vfm option.

There are also good ski schools in Courchevel, like Ski Supreme, BASS and New Gen.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Unfortunately nobody knows at this point.

Thanks for the info! Checked out EVO 2 and it looks great.

I'd like to book us some accommodation. Few nice places available on Airbnb but looks like we should wait until we get some word on the resorts. Is there like an official website we can go to to check for when they give the green light for the resorts to be open next year? Thanks all! Really hoping for some turns this year and to get the little ski bunnies out!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@nicole.bates, just book accommodation with good cancellation policy. Throughout the pandemic things have been unclear, decisions have been made, postponed, reversed.

Basically it's a case of believe it when you see it.

@nicole.bates, "Best" will depend on you, your budget, you kids and the specific instructor.

We have used ESF, EVO2, private lessons and others extensively (we have 3 boys who have all skied about 2-3 weeks a year from about 3/4 and had lessons through to ESF Gold- they are very lucky). They don't / didn't speak French.

We have found / observed;

1. ESF has been absolutely fine for us.
2. But not for some others- especially those worried about native English speaking instructors / English speaking kids / kids being left to get up by themselves.
3. We are fine with all the above- actually we'd prefer a French instructor, an international group of kids and for our kids to expect to get themselves up when they fall over. What's the point of going to West London in the alps? (We are not from West London, Guilford or other parts of Surrey).
4. The ski garden etiquette is very specific- ESF do not expect parents to hoover about whilst 4 yr olds have emotional breakdowns. I doesn't help.
5. All day ski school is a bit different. We have done that on occasion- but usually / exclusively when the kids have been with a company like Esprit. Unless your kids can ski quite well without getting tired think twice otherwise there will be tears at bedtime. Not just theirs.
6. But- morning only ski school can make for a bit of a traumatic 'nursery / school ski' to get to pick up on time.
7. If you are late they won't wait and your child will be left standing at the ski school meeting place.- Don't be late.
8. There is usually a day's break in a two week trip / series of lessons. This is good for- a rest, laundry, or a long ski with the kids- we managed to get our youngest ( I think then 5) from Tignes to le Fornet via Santons (the run of doom) Solaise, the up and over (for lunch at the Edelweiss) to Val D'Isere (by bus) la Daille, Toviere then lift down. He was quite tired.

Skiing with kids is different and expectations need radical revision. But not for long because soon it will be you who are shouting 'hey wait up!'

I will recommand to go to Avoriaz, specially with young kids. Car free resort, very well known children ski school.
Another option is to help the family to start skiing and get some confidence is to take some indoor ski lessons in UK
