Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Olympian Snowboarder and Snowboard Cross World Champion dies in avalanche

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Two-time Olympian Snowboarder Julie Pomagalski of France passed away Tuesday after being caught in an avalanche in Switzerland. Pomagalski was 40 years old. Sad

At the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, she finished sixth in the parallel giant slalom. She duplicated that feat four years later at the 2006 Games in Torino, Italy. In addition to her Olympic appearances, the Frenchwoman was the 1999 snowboard cross world champion and won silver at the 2003 Worlds in parallel giant slalom. Pomagalski is the granddaughter of Jean Pomagalski, who invented the first ski lift in 1934 and founded the brand Poma in 1947.

Sad news - I also saw that Jones team rider and splitboard pioneer Luca Pandolfi was killed in an avalanche in the Aosta Valley last week too. Sad

I've seen a couple of snippets last week of how dodgy conditions were.

On Pandolfi:

A shame to be taken so young but I guess it's the nature of it and they were doing what they loved.

I am not a snowboarder but once saw Julie Pomagalski slalom training in Alpe d'Huez, where she was from, and wow Shocked I never thought it was possible to do such things on a snowboard. Very sad but like @Layne, says she was doing what she loved.
