Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Freeride Ski - ski length advise

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I've up to now been hiring off piste skis when conditions allow but i'm thinking about buying now as its something i want to do more of and the hire cost arn't cheap for this type of ski. (lets also pretend that is not because i like ski gear either Laughing )

Anyway i've seen a deal on the ski's i like which is the Rossignol soul 7's but they are longer than the ones i've been hiring. My Piste skis are 180cm and the rented soul 7s i've been getting in the same length, although i here longer is better for the soft stuff. The one's i've seen are 188cm and i'm a little worried that they might be a bit cumbersome in small spaces like when traversing to a starting point or narrow runs.

I'm 6'1" around 81kg

If you are Advanced Skier of average aggression, that wants a ski with an emphasis towards Off Piste - I would say 183 - 189.....So the 188 is in that range. I have no idea how cumbersome you will find them.

I'm an inch or 2 taller than you and 4 or 5 kilos heavier, and ski-ed the Soul 7's in 188 a few years ago on a UCPA trip. They were great fun, although to be fair it absolutely hammered snow all week so anything probably would have been! They're known for being an 'easy' ski to ski, which in my book is a plus, although real experts might find them too soft. This means though that you shouldn't find them cumbersome anywhere other than the airport! Cool

I liked them enough that when I heard last year that Rossi were discontinuing them I bought a pair pronto.

Loads of rocker at both ends, just a bit of camber and not stiff so they ski really short and, like all skis in this class, are really easy to pivot. Defo 188 for your stats .

@Old Fartbag cool yeah i would say i'm average aggression, at least on piste anyway.

@Tom Doc Thanks for the reference. Didn't realise they're going to stop making them, i guess the blackops range is replacing them. Totally agree with the fun comment at least in fresh conditions. Everyone say's their terrible on piste but i never found that a problem.

@spyderjon would you recommend the Marker 11 bindings with these skis? I ask because i think i've read a comment on another thread by you saying you didn't rate that binding for a high end ski?

@Russeh, at your stats then for an alpine binding you should be looking at the Marker Griffon 13 ID, the Salomon Warden MNC 13/STH2, the Look Pivot 12/SPX or Tyrolia Attack2.
