Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. @drporat, yes, I expect there will be a free option in St Anton itself or nearby, as they will also be needed for unvaccinated people to access apres ski, and the bars won’t want to lose that custom. Last year, enterprising local doctors set up walk-ins for antigen testing in the bigger ski areas (they get about 25€ per test), but with the requirement for PCR tests for nightlife, they are currently arguing about the logistics. From this perspective, St Anton will be ok because it’s big and easily accessible for whoever has to drive the samples to the lab every day. More remote locations may have a problem.

Maybe the BIPA wien initiative (Alles gurgelt!) will arrive to their Dorfstraße branch Blush or the Salzburg Red Cross project.
I am not necessary looking for a free PCR test, people who can afford flying AND skiing can afford paying for tests in pandemic times, just hoping for lesser costs.
I wonder what will the price in Lech/Zurs be..

@drporat, I’m sure you will find someone willing to take your money wink But the situation is that resorts, especially big ones with an apres scene, like St Anton and Ischgl, are going to have to sort out a solution or be faced with guests who aren’t allowed to go out spending their money in the apres bars. Pragmatism will bring forward a solution, and it will be free because the state have declared they will pay, it’s just still a little bit early.

Hey Folks

A lot of talk here about Apres Ski !

Be aware Apres Ski is all linked to the National ICU Occupancy so there is a "possibility" of it being closed down at anytime .

Final corona rules winter sports Austria known

It was already known that winter sports enthusiasts will have to deal with the 3G rule (vaccinated, cured or tested) in Austrian ski resorts next winter. Now the long-awaited regulation of the Austrian government has been published. Link below contains further details about what the corona rules look like exactly when we go on winter sports in Austria.

Gondolas and chairlifts with hood: corona certificate and FFP2 masks

From 15 November, winter sports enthusiasts must show a 3G/corona certificate to enter the ski areas. This concerns closed and lockable ski lifts, so gondolas and chairlifts with hood. Ski resorts with only tow lifts or chairlifts without a hood would remain accessible for the time being without a 3G rule. Furthermore, an exception is made for people who need a cable car to meet their basic needs (for example, a cable car used by local residents as public transport).

The 3G certificate is checked when purchasing the ski pass, either by the ski area or by someone else who provides the ski pass (e.g. a hotelier). Season passes are valid for the same length of time as the corona certificate. The inspection is done by the ski resorts themselves, but is random. There would be no question of repeated checks at the entrance gate for the lift.

In gondolas, chairlifts with hood and enclosed spaces of the valley and mountain station, FFP2 masks are mandatory.

Restaurants and accommodations: corona certificate linked to ICU occupancy

Restaurants and accommodations can also only be entered with a 3G / corona certificate, whereby tested people who use an antigen test may use it for 24 hours. Also antigen self-tests. However, this measure is linked to the occupancy of the number of ICU beds in the Bundesland. If 15% of the ICU capacity is occupied by corona patients (phase 2), self-tests are no longer valid as admission tickets. However, antigen test from test lanes still does. With an ICU occupancy of 20% by corona patients (phase 3), only PCR tests are valid to enter. The 3G rule does not apply to pick-up or an Imbiss

Après-ski: 3G, but possibly 2G

Après-ski is possible again in Austria this winter. The rules follow the rules for nightclubs. This means that you enter après-ski with a 3G/corona certificate provided that the occupancy of ICU beds does not exceed 15%. For tested people, a PCR test is mandatory, an antigen test or proof of antibodies is not sufficient. If the ICU occupancy exceeds 15% (phase 2), only vaccinated and demonstrably cured people are allowed to enter the après-ski bar, the so-called 2G rule. Municipalities can take stricter measures if necessary, such as limited opening hours or an early closing time.

All details can be found in the official document of the Austrian government

While I am sure private medical services will happily relieve you of your money, the tests are free for everybody using state providers. This includes the airports and several in Innsbruck itself. The reason the test are free is so that tourists can use them should they need access to somewhere that would like to take their money. You do not need insurance or a social security number to access free testing, and anyone who tells you that you do is wrong.

Zurich is not in Austria.

*Access* to aprés ski is linked to ICU occupancy. Nobody is talking about closing bars or anything like that. In theory it could happen, but it is not as likely as the above poster makes it sound.

@stanton, not quite sure why Dutch documents or info about Zürich should be relevant to a St Anton thread. All this was posted earlier on the general Austria thread. Details can be found at https://www.tt.com/artikel/30804283/corona-lockdown-fuer-ungeimpfte-bei-600-belegten-intensivbetten (which is from the main regional "newspaper" for the Tirol). Basically if you are fully vaccinated life would not be very different than at present even if the risk was raised to the highest levels (that includes "apres ski") but if you are not fully vaccinated (and that includes teenagers) then you could be pretty much excluded from doing anything but going to work. I guess for tourists that effectively means being stuck inside a hotel room. Risk levels are linked to occupancy of beds in ICU not 7 day rates etc.

I would assume unvaccinated folk would be prevented from working as taxi drivers and might be better off staying in Zürich or Basel.

Austria threatens unvaccinated with lockdown

Austria's government is increasing the pressure on unvaccinated people in the corona crisis:

If the number of Covid patients in intensive care units increases significantly, all unvaccinated people would have to go into another lockdown. The Austrian government has decided to tighten the corona measures for the unvaccinated.

In the event of a dramatic deterioration in the situation in the intensive care units, unprotected people would have to reckon with exit restrictions, said Austrian Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg after a meeting with the prime ministers.

They would then only be allowed to leave their homes in exceptional cases. Excluded from this, according to the information, are all those who can not be vaccinated, such as children under the age of twelve. "We are about to stumble into a pandemic of the unvaccinated," said the head of government.

@stanton, Yep, iconic scenes. The old line and station gave the place an intriguing character, almost exotic. So disappointed when they moved the line.
I know it released a lot of land for development for WC2001 but so much development was/is characterless; an emptiness that is the pedestrianised way now where the line was.
I also have further to lug my kit from the new station.
IMHO the only upside is that now you don't have to wait at a crossing to and from Galzig.

I am in St Anton from January 2nd but will have been in France for more than 10 days before travelling and likely entering Austria via-train from Switzerland on 2/1. Given our vaccine certificates are now accepted by EU and I have the french tousanticovid loaded with my certificate. Will I be needing anything else to cross border? Cheers for any advice.

Was planning a quick dash out 9th December for a few days, for a couple of days skiing (snow permitting obvs) before it gets too manic on the slopes and to collect our skis/ boot bags dumped March 20 when we had to get out in a hurry as AUT entered lockdown. Logistics (channel crossings/ or flights -almost non existent at sensible prices) are proving a nightmare, and we've abandoned any plans to ski until end March this upcoming season (too busy at work and also need to be about and stay as sure non-CV as can be assured for family reasons).....so long shot, but anyone travelling back to UK anytime in a van etc, id be happy to chip in with fuel etc if you could collect our kit (2 ski bags and 2 bootbags, near Galzigbahn). .....PM if that'd work for you and perhaps help with your travel costs? Cheers folks

@Mark1863, quite what will be happening by New Year involves an element of crystal ball gazing. On the basis of the situation at the moment, if you are fully vaccinated then you are likely to find few, if any, restrictions. Unlikely that there will be any border checks. If current trends continue you could well find that any sort of of leisure activity (drinking, skiing etc) could well be restricted to those who are fully vaccinated. Dont rely on getting tested as that may no longer count. Make sure your certificates are up to date (the NHS ones expire after a month even in the apps) in case they are being inspected more carefully than currently and make sure you carry id with you at all times (passport preferably but driving licence will probably be OK). Note that Austria requires FFP2 masks, make sure you have some before getting on the train in Switzerland. Switzerland requires you to fill in a health form even for transit.

Corona (sorry but it is important )

The Situation is deteriorating quite rapidly in Austria like many other European Countries

Landeck District (St Anton , Ischgl, Sefaus, etc ) as well as some other Districts ..

They will move to Stage 2 this Friday..

((On Tuesday, we reached the 300 bed utilization in intensive care units. This means that Stage 2 will come into force as announced – with a one-week delay. However, we expect 400 beds to be exceeded in the intensive care units as early as next Monday." This means that stage 3 of the 5-step plan would then come into force – and not in about a week, but immediately!))

Additionally exit controls for districts of Landeck and Reute from Friday

Due to the rising number of corona infections, there are now also exit controls in Tyrol. These concern the Oberland districts of Landeck and Reutte, which have a high incidence, and apply from Friday, Said Governor Günther Platter (ÖVP) on Wednesday at a press conference in the Innsbruck Landhaus.

A valid 3G proof will be required to leave the districts.

@stanton, given you have only one post a day you are always behind the news. This has been noted elsewhere. Situation in many parts of Bavaria next to Austria is worse than you mention here (7 day incident rate over 600), many places now moving to 2G. Strange that someone who seems to obsess over the virus claims to not want to get vaccinated!

@mcgroa, this has been answered a number of times on the "travel to Austria" thread. Currently Austrian establishments are accepting any valid vaccine certificate whether paper or electronic. Few if any places are scanning it to check it's valid. Perhaps this might change if the rules are tightened up but there is no indication at this moment in time that is planned. You should ensure you carry photo id as if it is checked you need to prove it applies to you (to stop people using other people's certs).
