Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I should have realised the pyramidal mountain was too small for the Matterhorn! But the building was almost identical to one I sheltered in in a blizzard on the Rothorn (I thought).

I know the Haute Maurienne well (loads of good off-piste there) but cannot seem to link it to any of the 6 resorts up there, unless it is the couloir des Militaires at Val Frejus.
I don't know the Lower Maurienne at all.

@snowball, Having just watched a video on youtube me thinks you have got it as there is a rock on the R Hand side of the couloir that is exactly the same as this 0.32mins

I don't immediately have the answer to that couloir and was just popping in to see if I had got the Militaires right.
Meanwhile I will put my couloir on here which is less well known than the main face: this was taken from part way down it, if I remember right.

By the way, if anyone wants a guide for the Haute Maurienne might I throughly recommend Zeb Roche, who is one of my 3 favourite guides. He gives you an exciting time and is also an astonishingly good judge of snow and safety. He first climbed Everest when he was 16 and when he married he and his wife climbed it for their honeymoon and paraglided off the top. I hire him every year (not just for the Maurienne, where he lives, but also Verbier where he did 2 years, the Dolomites and other places).

@snowball, think I've skied that but it was a long while ago

I suspect that BobinCH's will be difficult. I was with him and could point to it on a map (this may be a clue for those familiar with my skiing habits) but I'm not sure it even has an official name! It's quite a process getting to it so I don't think it gets skied too much

I was fairly sure I hadn't skied it. I am not a tourer, only being willing to do relatively short skins of perhaps an hour, (or in the past occasionally two hours) in order to access exceptional descents. Unfortunately recently I have got giddy doing quite moderate ascents, and this persists and spoils my skiing. Neurological investigation has not solved why.

Huzzah!

I cannot get access to the computer with my photos on it right now. Will post something tonight.

I suspect that Bob's is the Bec de Rosses in the direction of Fionnay but I am far from certain.

The colourful chaps must surely be Italian with those ski suits. And the rocks have that pink, piled up, Dolomitic look.
