Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Oh yes, sorry, one and a half days at Alyeska and a week of heli skiing. I wouldn't put up a photo of heli, to be recognised, though.
Jackson wasn't a guess, it faces a plain (before other mountains), not a tree-filled valley.

Whoops: didn’t read those posts very carefully, did i? Backside of JH and Teton is valleys with flattened ridges (but your shot is frontside with lift... double doh!)

I was amazed so few people skied Granite Canyon (the back, which is a canyon, not a big valley). When we arrived at Jackson Hole the front had been scoured by wind and was almost skied out, except in the side country with a small walk where we found powder. We went up the tram and out at the first gate. Admittedly we had to cross a few yards of scoured stony surface at the crest, but behind was entirely soft powder with no tracks.

Those horizontal layers noticed on the face of the mountain are typical of the Northern Rockies ... I would guess Sunshine Village but almost sure it is in Banff/Lake Louise NP area ...

albob, Spot on Madeye-Smiley Over to you.

A great little gem, and off the beaten track. Good for the final stop on roadtrips as an easy and short drive back to Calgary.
On the Lake Louise card too, providing very reasonable lift tickets.

Ha, that was too easy as well. For you anyway. How are you doing, Idris.

Well, for those who don't know it, the col itself is a bit further down and to the right, this is the view point at the top of the Val Cenis skiing, looking over the back. Hannibal is reputed to have gone over the col with his elephants.

@patrick!, Spot on. Siglufjörður in Iceland.

I hear the Icelandic government is looking at opening their borders completely (with some caveats) from early May,
although I'm minded to go then if it's legal and I'm vaccinated anyway - they have decent hotels and good food & beer.

The village apparently used to be a major Herring packaging place and features a Herring museum. They held an international competition on the ridge line over there a couple of years ago. I think the village was in at least one of a pair of Icelandic murder mysteries (it was named in both but I think the shot the 1st one somewhere else). When I was there the snow was mostly garbage and there are no trees, but it's steep in places.

Over to you...
