Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Who knows... although through my experience with all things french, I wouldn't put it past them !! rolling eyes

Do you have to pass a Euro speed vaccine test to be able to deliver it?

Talking to someone the other day who runs a ski school, mainly for UK customers. If aid for businesses is ok he thinks he'd be better off financially not opening at all. A short season for mainly french customers wouldn't be any good for him, they mainly use ESF or ESI.

Lifts completely stopped here for a few days, no ski clubs about. I think pisting, etc has also stopped. Still a few people about, getting up by whatever means.

Could cope with 20km and 3hrs but 1km 1hr would be tough

The three "stages" and/or "pistes" being envisaged

1. curfew for the whole country at 18h
2. curfew + weekend lockdown
3. total lockdown (but maybe starting with departments like the Hautes-Alpes where the English variant is circulating currently) then extending as and when. 2 months being talked about by doctors, so Feb + March.

There is another meeting of ministers to discuss this today with announcements on Thursday. I would exclude (3) for this weekend even if the medical advice is to do that. More likely is we will move to stage 1. Number 2 will be as welcome as a shit baguette - you can work but you can't go out !

Quote:
On Wednesday January 13, the government meets around a new health defense council, on the eve of a new official speech. What are the possible scenarios for France, faced with the epidemic rebound?

This Tuesday, January 12, there are now officially 25 French departments in curfew from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. But what will it be from next week? This is the question that will have to debate the health defense council meeting Wednesday, January 13, while the president of the Scientific Council must submit a report to the Elysee on Tuesday, on the effectiveness of this measure.
Which departments are in the hot seat?

If three scenarios are put forward (read below), it could also be that the government chooses not to announce new measures this week, to leave itself a few more days to choose the best strategy to adopt.

This scenario would therefore leave the anticipated curfew in the departments where it was enacted as it is and would allow the prefects, after consultation with local elected officials, to place the territories under tension, with a curfew from 6 p.m.

According to the Parisian, the departments that could switch are Haute-Savoie, Yonne but also Deux-Sèvres where the incidence rate appears particularly high.
National re-containment

According to several sources, three scenarios are under study to cope with the epidemic rebound after the end of the year holidays and the arrival of the British variant of Covid-19, which is wreaking havoc in England and including several outbreaks epidemics have been identified in France.

Among these scenarios, that of national reconfinement, which is starting to make more and more noise. On this subject, the government does not close the door completely, but presents this option as the "last resort". In any case, this is the message conveyed by Jean Castex, the Prime Minister, during the "parliamentary monitoring committee" meeting which was held on Monday 11 January.

According to BFM, the question of local re-containment could also be raised, and “non-essential” businesses could be forced to close their doors again.
A national curfew from 6 p.m.

Regarding the generalization of the advanced curfew at 6 p.m., it is currently the most probable scenario. Moreover, this Tuesday, the president of the Scientific Council Jean-François Delfraissy must submit a report on the impact of the curfew at 6 p.m. to Emmanuel Macron, in anticipation of the health defense council the next day.

This measure seems according to the sources mentioned by BFM, the most probable at this time. In addition, LCI reports that making the national curfew from 6 p.m. would allow the executive to return to measures generalized to the entire territory, thus allowing more readability.
How effective is this curfew?

This is somewhat the determining question. Is the 6 p.m. curfew effective? What is certain is that it is not unanimous, many elected officials protesting against the congestion caused in particular in stores so that working people can do their shopping before returning home.

Among scientists, too, we do not completely agree on the effectiveness of the measure. At Le Parisien, epidemiologist Catherine Hill, confides: "An advanced curfew at 6 p.m. will not change much. It will annoy people and will not greatly reduce the number of people who cross paths, and who become contaminated" .

Pascal Crepey, teacher-researcher at EHESP believes on the contrary that the curfew from 6 p.m. can slow down the epidemic. He explains to LCI: "It makes it possible a priori to avoid even more these social contacts that we can have with our friends. It has avoided that we can go to have a drink with one or the other, right after work ".
A curfew and partial confinement

It would be a question of maintaining the curfew at 6 p.m., while adding to the measure a total re-containment, only on weekends, in order to completely limit travel, while some French people take advantage of these two days of rest to move or see family.

The government will undoubtedly take the decision this Wednesday, during the health defense council, and an announcement could be made, depending on the direction taken by the executive, in the coming days, probably Thursday, during a speech by the Prime Minister or Minister of Health.

If my experience of Decathlon and Carrefour in Chambery last Saturday is typical can't see 2 helping that much. They were heaving and shopping at Carrefour with an attestation would still be possible. Possibly even busier given early closing during the week.

That's why I shop when the stores open, Sunday at 8.30am is best for me. Although when Lidl had the basketmania last week it was heaving with gypsies stocking up on shoes to sell online for 10,000 euros.

I normally shop here with occasional trips to Vizille during the week, lunchtime if possible, for a larger choice of meat and fish. Since they closed the poissonerie in Casino at Bourg d'oisans there isn't much choice there either.

I needed something from Decathlon in Chambery, out of stock everywhere else, only reason for going.

It is always heaving in Chambery, la Tronche is less busy, or St Priest if you are Lyon. You can do a pickup in la Tronche if you are able to order online.

If the population are anyway behaving appropriately, what does a weekend lockdown achieve?

Not sure it’s “following the science*” (*of October, anyway).

I’m not sure that without shutting the economy, again, all workplaces included, that these measures are now strong enough given the prevalence?

Must say I'm amazed by the traffic still on the road at 18:00 think it must be people travelling back from work and that they're allowed.

This weekend the Andros Trophy at the Ice Racing Circuit is going ahead but no spectators allowed, you can view it on a live feed, I might blag a press pass again.

I think you're supposed to have an attestation with you but nobody bothers up here... totally obvious if you're out solo plus dog at 22h at minus 13 that you're not doing anything dangerous !!!

My assumption is that lifts won't be opening any time soon given the trajectory at the moment and with the arrival of the English variant. If we can escape a full 1km/1hr lockdown it would be nice.

There is an announcement by Jean Castex tonight. Probably an 18h curfew nationwide but apparently there will be local measures as well. Behind the scenes the govt has been advised for a full lockdown lasting 2 months but they won't want to do that.

In terms of case numbers the French look to have done pretty well compared with other countries, but numbers are still slowly creeping up so they aren't in a position to release any restrictions. But they don't look to be in a desparate need for further restrictions, though they may have internal data about the new variant's spread that worries them.

What is a worry is that they are so slow with vaccines. There is at least a hope that the UK can start to relax (probably starting with schools re-opening) once hospitalisations start to reduce, but I am not sure France will be in a better situation until well after the end of the ski season.
