Help!!
Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Local resort has groomed a couple of runs back to base for the non-off-piste tourers and the racers. Gave me the chance to lay down the first few euros of the season! Was filming on gopro / selfie stick and one of them came out pretty well, so I added some how-to instructions.
Incidentally, for the carving fraternity on here, that's 15/15 duck stance on a splitboard!
Not a perfect demo for sure, I'd have re-shot if I was setting out to make a teaching video, but good enough! Had to cut it short as I was running out of space and would have had a high-speed, face-first encounter with the bank if I'd let it run naturally!

The other general point is that you want some speed for this. The ideal terrain is a steep slope (to pick up speed) leading to a flat area to do the trick on. If it's really flat you can even go for the mythical 360deg carve. It feels committing, but you're very unlikely to get hurt unless you run into something, as you're already so close to the ground. Only times I scare myself doing these is if the snow looks good but turns out to be bumpy or really frozen, in which case I've felt like I was going to tear my arm off a few times!
Getting yourself onto the ground in a low (squatted) position and as a continuous
movement
following the edge change is the main technical point. Reaching for the ground with your hand while bending forward from the waist doesn't work (and looks ridiculous.....)
