Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

10000 Brits stuck in Switzerland

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
The title of this thread should be changed to

10000 Brits happily enjoying Switzerland

Switzerland welcomed them and allow those who wish to leave to leave. Whoever remain are because they prefer being "stuck" there than in Britain.

Get over it!

re BobinCH and 'irresponsible' - I think sort out the circumstances before shouting. Bob and family simply are complying with local regulations, and as people living in CH rather than travelling there are not importing any virus into CH. On that basis, hold back with the shouting.

I'm not getting at Bob, he is normally a great poster & source of info. I may be mistaken but I assumed those were UK holiday makers as that was the tread was about, if they live there then you are correct they are not transporting the virus.
As for the affects of no one travelling, well the import of the new strain from a South African tourist into the UK & then onto Europe, answers my thought on that.
I'm not allowed to go to the local beach to walk my dog, but someone from halfway round the globe is! Something is not right there.

As crazy as that is, that's your (U.K.) problem. It is of no concern to people who live in CH. Contact your MP.

No I was responding to this post flaming Verbier restaurants and replied as I am there and the restaurants are adhering to the rules from what I can see.

@brianatab, I agree selfish and foolhardy. The Swiss restauranteurs In verbier don’t give a damn accepting bookings from brits who should be quarantining . Reports that they are packed with no regard to the required social distancing . Happy to take the cash .

I’m seeing a new use case for heated glove liners. Stop you breaking a tooth on your lunch if you tuck your baguette butty inside.

Hyperbole, generalizations, and self righteousness. I didn't encounter any of that in Switzerland three weeks ago. A big sign saying "This is it" with nearly a metre of snow underneath is positively downplaying matters.

If you post a figure, or a fact, put a note linking or explaining the source. Otherwise you're doing a splendid impression of a shopkeeper confronted with a dead parrot.

As for your moralizing, it is the sort of herd stupidity that leads to people running around after discarded shoes or gourds of some poor unfortunate who had the misfortune to speak the wrong thing at the wrong moment.

Be just deserts is the Swiss authorities got hold of their passport details and banned them from returning. Maybe even a ban from the Schengen area?

At the end of the day, they have deliberately broken quarantine rules in the Country they were visiting, so should be due some form of punishment.
No doubt some of them will try to find somewhere else to ski for a few days, before heading home to the UK. Pound to a penny, they won't follow the rules here either.

It's these sort of d**heads that will keep spreading the virus and cause longer restrictions for anyone else.

Maybe if we could identify some of them, put tags on as an example, so they have to stay at home.

@BenW_86, surely, if placed into quarantine by the local Authority, you would need their permission?

Hopefully, anybody who has symptoms (at least 1, so probably more of same group) has not gone awol.

@brianatab, I was wondering about that too.

But- 1. The hotels said they didn't notice- didn't notce hundreds of people clomping up and down sytairs with luggage and packing cars and taxis in the middle of the night.

2. the statement from Bagnes was very sympathetic to the Brits:"It was when they saw the meal trays remained untouched that the hoteliers noticed that the customers had gone," he told the ATS news agency.

"We can't blame them. In most cases, quarantine was untenable. Imagine four people staying in a hotel room of 20 square metres.”

3. Brits makes up a huge percentage of the custom and bring in gazzillions of CHuffs.

So I suspect that everything will be great.

I wonder what the reaction would be with a different demographic?

He added that the tourists left feeling "a little angry with Switzerland" and with the sense of having been "trapped".

The UK press is gleefully headlining Brits as 'Fleeing' from Verbier.

You 'flee' a tsunami, or an earthquake, bombings, or strafing by fighter 'planes. You 'pack up and leave' or perhaps 'give up on' a holiday when you realise you can get in your car and be home in 12 hours rather than be confined to a hotel room under less safe conditions than at home.

The usual hack journo clichés.

And a bit of schadenfreude always goes down well with the British public.
