Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

@Mr.Egg, Think we'll agree that it's coming to Wales 'Cos Drayford messed up with the Firebreak and subsequent actions. Also, wandering around Swansea, a lot of people don't seem to give a poo-poo.

Update on France:

https://www.connexionfrance.com/French-news/France-lockdown-to-end-December-15-20-00-curfew-to-start

Key points:

A curfew will come into effect from December 15, replacing the lockdown.
The curfew will be from 20:00 until 06:00, instead of beginning at 21:00 as previously planned. Mr Castex said, “It will be strictly controlled with limited possibilities for exemption".
End of exemption certificates (attestations de déplacement) during the day from December 15. They will still be required for authorised outings between 20:00 to 06:00
There will be no exemption to the curfew on December 31 as had previously been stated. There will only be an exemption on December 24
Cinemas, theatres, museums, casinos will not reopen on December 15 as planned. The opening has been pushed back three weeks to January 7, 2021.
Inter-regional travel will again be allowed from December 15, as planned.
There will be no change to the current rules on places of worship
There will be stricter police checks from now, France’s interior minister has stated. Since the beginning of the second lockdown, 2,924,775 police checks have been undertaken.

And:

https://www.diplomatie.gouv.fr/en/coming-to-france/coronavirus-advice-for-foreign-nationals-in-france/

So in a nutshell - no skiing over Xmas & New Year. Travelling around is allowed, but you have to arrive at your destination before 8pm and not leave it before 6am.

@esaw1,

Our council is not doing its track & trace job.

I know of people who have now tested positive & not been contacted by track & trace.
We are learning of outbreaks through community chitter-chatter.
Starting to think if the £500 bribe to isolate is fueling the flames to get the virus or being an hindrance to save money if not contacted by track & trace

2 weekends in a row, the same pub (when they was open) was highlighted as an incident hotspot. Now for me, that hotspot is not only the weekend, but everyday in between!

Also, our isolation has been cut to 10 days - My assumption is that can only be because of a delay between testing details being passed to track & trace. So by the time a person has been contacted, it is already about 4 days before they came into contact!
Lots of smoke & mirrors going on to dampen the truth.

These are the places that should be fined heavily enough to be shut down, or have licences revoked.

I accept it's very difficult for the much smaller venues, with few staff to keep an eye on who is sitting and moving where, but most of those who didn't enforce the rules are in the City Centre, and employ doorstaff, therefore no excuse not to.

EU Schengen Covid Travel Restriction is not related to Brexit.. This has been policy for sometime now just like US restricting Europeans.

I guess as soon as Vaccine Rollout is expedited & contagion rate starts to significantly decrease
the entry restrictions on US, UK citizens and other Non EU countries will be lifted ..

I would estimate these restrictions to be lifted at the earliest summer time (July/August)

But then it all depends on what happens in the next few months,

Just remember the more you continue to act like Covidiots the longer it will take to get back to near normal times.

Folks (Covidiots) on this Forum attempting anyway, circumnavigate or even travel corridors to go on Wintersports/Summer Holidays..

You are the Problem! Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Holidays (Winter/Summer) are NOT ESSENTIAL travel.. Wait for 2021/22

Well. There's a first. Never though I would agree with@stanton, on anything.

Not quite on all though. Must remind him that Covidiots are not restricted to this forum. Don't think many of us would be booking a winter sun holiday. rolling eyes

I think that the Wintersport Countries will be pushing to let Brits in for as much of the season as they can, especially if our rate drops below those of other EU Countries, who might keep their local restrictions in place.

Having just been to Sainsbury's to pick up a click and collect, I was the only person to use sanitiser going in or out. Arguably it is more important on leaving a contaminated supermarket??
Everything we buy is wiped down with bleach or quarantined for at least 3 days.
Invariably I have to growl at people completely ignoring distancing and with shoddy masking - including in a hospital. A nurse, who had done nothing to correct, branded me "nasty" - to which I replied "better nasty and alive, rather than nice and dead".
I'm generally at home, go for an hour cycle ride 3 or 4 times a week and supermarket/shop once a week.
Commonsense in UK population is almost ZERO - just look at the rubbish discarded everywhere after the first lockdown. So what chance of following Covid19 rules??? They aren't difficult but aren't being followed - Rita Ora??
We have taken part in 2 C19 testing trials, one antigen and 1 antibody with negative results. And done the 14 day weekend totally inside when we returned from France in October after 2 months.
I KNOW THE RISKS AND FOLLOW THE RULES
I am going to ski and not the slightest bit interested in crowded hot sweaty bars and apres ski screaming. A curfew is just fine by me. And an apartment for 2 and car to get there.
An odd beer on sunny quiet outoor terrace will do. For the last 10 years during my long trips, I've taken a sandwich up the mountain for 95% of lunches, so really don't need any facilities.

I don’t doubt you colinstone, but in general terms Stanton does has a point. There is some evidence that the initial ‘fuel’ for the second wave was European travel over the summer. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-55246112

And anecdotally at least cases imported by folks returning from Italy and Austria were implicated in the first.

The EU entry restrictions from 1st Jan could do us a favour this winter, if they actually happen. There is some irony that we might benefit from EU border controls, while our Brexit government who promised to “take back control of our borders” did virtually nothing at the one time it might have be useful.

@GlasgowCyclops, Was only reading online yesterday that Germany probably going back into full lockdown due to significant increases in Covid rates. France in strict curfew. Sweden rates higher than at any time.

Love to see where the Spanish are going to get these big spenders from Puzzled

If they hadn't been so desperate for the income from the British tourists, they might have delayed opening their resorts a bit longer in the summer, and reduced the risk of a second wave.

@paulo, I did read earlier in the year that whilst there were a number of cases that were linked to Italy/Austria, the vast majority of cases in the first wave were linked to winter sun holidays in Spain/Portugal. The Valencia/Atalanta football match was attributed to a cluster of 40,000 cases by the Mayor of Bergamo, and a spike in the Valencia region, where many Brits holiday in the winter.

@GlasgowCyclops, I'm struggling to see the logic in that as well. Germany's new case rate over 7 days is increasing markedly, and head for head is worse than the UK.

Given the mismanagement of the second wave across Europe when you study the number of cases, then emotion and rumour seems to be fuelling that Spanish view....

As an EU passport holder (albeit living and working in the UK), I am seeking clarity on travel from the UK post Jan 1st. Are all travellers from the UK restricted from entering or will it just be British Passport holders? I am fairly sure I know the answer but I want to be 100%. There is also the little issue of travel as most flights will be cancelled but I may drive it in any case. Timing wise, I am thinking end Jan and into Feb. Thank you. C

@Choc Ice, @kedsky, It is the country you are coming from not your nationality. EG If I was Italian and in the UK and going to France then I would have the same restrictions as someone who is British coming from the UK. If I was British and coming from Italy I would have the same entry into France as an Italian.

There are different rules for a nationality point to the country of their nationality. EG French coming from the UK going into France.

After Brexit the UK (unless we remain on the existing OK list) will have 3rd country status IE Not EU or Shengen. Therefore the entry will depend on the country of destination and the corona virus status of the originating country (EG UK)

Looking at countries various rules, it will be anyone travelling from a ‘not on the safe list’ country, unless they are a citizen of the destination.
So thinking havingan irish passport would make someone exempt may be wrong, as each country has their own set of rules as well as the advisory from ECDC

Is any European country on the "safe" list at the moment?

If so, is it possible to travel from 1 safe country direct to another?

If not, it's pretty much an academic discussion.

Most EU countries have applied the ECDC recommendations.
Croatia and Hungry have decided not to.
Also each country can enforce their own extra restrictions.
It may be worth researching what EU countries are doing about 3rd countries that border them
Poland/Ukraine for example.

Yes. Don't think UK will be on EU safe list on 1/1/21.

"If you have visited any other countries within the past ten days, you must present a negative PCR test upon entering Austria, which must have been taken within the previous 72 hours. Failing this, you must quarantine for ten days. You can choose to undergo a test during this time at your own expense. A negative result ends the quarantine period."

I was meant to go to Austria on the 9th January but I can't see it happening. Even if we push our arrival back to the 10th, I have no idea whether quarantine still applies or not because all the comms just say "until the 10th" which could mean 00:00 on the 10th or 23:59!

Even without that I suspect that it'll get pushed back a bit anyway.

There is another thread where people think because they have an EU passport they are except & dont seem to understand it is having been in the departure country that is on the list, from where the rules apply.

From 19 December 2020 until 10 January 2021, people entering from risk areas MUST quarantine for 10 days upon arrival. Every country with a 14-day incidence rate (COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people) over 100 is considered a risk area. As soon as more information becomes available, we will update this page.

UK will prob be on that risk area - there are already areas of the UK on the list. UK current rate is 300+ per 100k
