Poster: A snowHead

Looking for third party excess insurance that work for non UK residents. Found 2 options: Rentalcover.com and icarinsurance.com. The latter is much cheaper. Trustpilot reviews seem about the same. Any snowheads had experiences with either? Any other good options uot there?

@sugardaddy, there are others that offer cover for residents outside of UK but in limited countries, eg France, Spain, Germany.
Insurance4carhire.com
...is one example.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@sugardaddy, used icarinsurance for many years, only had to claim once for a stone chip in the windscreen. Easy claim process and paid out within 4 weeks so no complaints from me. Think the underwriter was/is Zurich

Sadly insurance4carhire do not cover residents of my country (they only cover United Kingdom, Guernsey, Jersey, Isle of Man, Republic of Ireland, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Netherlands or Sweden)

Reactivating this thread as I just got an email says my icarhireinsurance.com cannot be renewed next year due to the U.K. exiting the EU. Anyone know other options for people living in the EU?

Insurance4carhire.com says for an annual Europe policy, not included is cover for policyholders not resident in the U.K. So they are out.

Questor seems to offer this as you can pick Sweden as your country of residence. A quick and dirty quote for annual cover for Europe, 2 drivers, lead at 50 years old is Euro50.
Ive bought their cover before but never claimed on it.

@ster, thanks, I’ll contact them. Although the icarhireinsurance.com also has that drop down of country still on their website.
Surprising to me the others can’t offer coverage for EU residents as the policy must be underwritten by insurers with a licence in the EU. Even for Zurich.co.uk you can only buy car hire excess insurance as a U.K. resident. Need to check some European websites.

@Themasterpiece you’re in Sweden right? Bank Norwegian Visa credit card (no annual fee) with optional car hire excess insurance for 249sek per year.

Don’t use them myself but have have similar car hire excess on my SAS and DNB MasterCard. You might already have it on one of your credit cards.

@Spoon, thanks. I’m checking my home/travel insurance as some seem to offer this with extended travel insurance, but only for car hire abroad.
Will check by SAS Eurobonus (SEB) card.

@ster, Questor confirmed they still offer insurance policies for EU residents
@Spoon, Thanks for the tip regarding the Bank Norwegian card - looks like the credit card is free and the cost to add the insurance is 250 kr/yr which is a good deal. I don’t really want another credit card, but will consider it.
Also found some of the home insurers offer it as part of their included travel insurance eg Folksam and IF. But only for car hire abroad.
I also asked a German colleague if the German insurers are offering similar products? You can buy the cover for a trip, say a week or two, but not an annual policy it seems.
