Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

9 seater hire company recommendations

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi guys and girls,
We are doing our usual Feb half term drive to the alps.
We need to hire a 9 seater as our five teenagers have outgrown our car for long journeys.
I've had a quote from Enterprise of £1,040 from Friday morning until the following Monday morning, incl compulsory Euro breakdown and excess protection.
Can any Snowheads recommend a more competitive company ?? We live on Bucks/Herts border
Thanks

sign up to accor hotels & use the microsite for europacar
https://microsite.europcar.com/accorhotels/en

no idea if they have 9 seaters in the UK - but usually saves a fair bit overseas

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Ah thanks, we are staying overnight in an accor hotel so they might look on us favourably.
Obviously we need to hire in the UK though, so fingers crossed that can be done

Two cars? Your usual one plus a small hire car? Should save a bunch of money.

The problem with hiring any cars in the UK that you (obviously) have to tell them you are taking them abroad, normally has a 200 mile limit per day, then x amount per mile after that. Its a con, but nothing to really get round it

Enterprise is unlimited mileage and full Europe. Apparently they have started doing it since COVID, to boost bookings

200 x 9 = 1800. Should cover it unless a very far flung part of the Alps

After all it is free Go on u know u want to!

Ah, the one part I never mentioned, was that the total mileage ie the 200 per day, was only while you were in the UK. So the driving from Calais etc didnt count towards the total allowable mileage. I argued with them when I was looking to book, and they wouldnt have it.

This was in the summer of 2018, and I was wanting a car to drive to Austria for two weeks.

www.holidayautos.com is showing £706 for a 9-seater minibus from 12th-22nd Feb. And that was based on a search in London, and was with Enterprise.

That is for unlimited mileage; but the terms say for UK use only. But as others have kindly pointed-out here, they may have changed the terms to allow full European travel, so best to contact them directly. But of course, they may well charge an additional fee for this.

Have a great and safe trip!

@jamie72carter, you could try Kendall vehicle hire.

Nearest may be Chertsey, to you, if that's possible. I've hired vans from them and priced an estate car for holiday travel contingency to Europe. You'd need to cover more fine print details for yourself but they were fine with this usage.

They've a depot near to Croydon tramlink at south Wimbledon for within London public transport connections, about 200 metres away if of any use.

I think that is quite resonable, at least compared with rates local to me (Chamonix)

Wonder if you have looked into hiring in Calais? You could pack them into your car for the short bit and then swap it all? Just an idea. We have had to do the UK/Fr hire car swap in a Calais car hire location when we had to leave the family car in the South of France one year. Had one from Nice to Calais and then swapped into UK hire car. Saved a lot of hassles as 2 yrs before when the same car broke down nr St Quentin the other half had to drive the hire car back to France Shocked Shocked

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Bloody St Quentin. The place is jinxed. We have twice been recovered from the A16 by the same firm to the same garage. Second time turned into a car hire return farce.
