Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski boot question.

Had a problem in VT last week with my boots. Weird one I think but hopefully one of you guy's can help. I have a pair of Salomon Course GT boots, done about 5weeks in them, I don't do off piste, usually just as fast as I can carve or quick turns on Dynastar skicross' 182cm or rossi vipers 180cm, this weekend I only took a new pair of Fischer RC4 worldcup sc 160cm.
Friday was great couldn't believe how good the fischer's were had a real blast, carved hard and loads quick turns had a really good time, but on saturday and sunday my boots felt like bloody flip flops, I was swimming in them and the skiing was horrible, tried every run to adjust the tightness or lossen you name it I tried it..never ever had a problem like this before with the boots. The only reason I can remotely think of is the difference with the skis, maybe highlighting a slight size problem with the boots because the skiing was so much more aggressive than I usually do, I can't believe that after 5 weeks the boots are knackered but I have zero confidence in them now.

Which then leads me onto another question anyone got any idea what boot would suit me best?
5'11 all bones no meat 70kgs ( wet ) 95% piste 5% off can ski all runs no probs, no expert but good inter/advanced I think.

Totally gutted that I missed all the snowheads, ended up skiing alone all weekend, asked every person I heard speaking English on or around the lifts if they were snowheads all looked at me stupid lol can't believe I missed you all I was on caron lifts/ runs loads times....what really gutted me was forgetting where u were all staying and then on my final run to reach my car parked in zero I saw the bloody Snowheads banner under the lift up plein sud the only time I did that run all weekend grrrrrrrrrrr

Taff, sorry that you didn't manage to catch up with any of us. If it happens again, it's probably worth swapping phone numbers by PM with those that are going, so that they can hook up with you.

Sorry, can't give you any useful advice about the boots. Sad

Taff, It's really difficult to recommend boots. Sad Best plan is to go to a specialist bootfitter (did someone say Smallzookeeper ?), and have them look at your feet and recommend a pair that will fit. snowHead

Taff, if the boots are the correct size for you then i would hope you will get more than 5 weeks from them (the liners will be starting to deteriorate buyt should not be dead yet!)The course GT is a junior boot so the quality of the liner materials are on the basic end of the scale of materials that Salomon use, and may not last as long as the liners on their adult range. If however the boots were too big in the first place your foot will move around in the liner compacting it more than it normally would, this can lead to the liner becoming compressed in a fraction of the time that it would normally last. Have you got custom footbeds in the boots? it may be that you foot is pronating excessively in the boot, this could be minimised with the use of a good footbed (if the boot is too big it won't help much and is throwing good money after bad)

As for recomending a boot for you, this is not something i or any other bootfitter would do without seeing your feet......shape of the boot to suit your foot is the key, not just the correct length , but the correct width and volume around the foot. the best thing to do with the current boots is get to a bootfitter and get a professional opinion on the size / shape of the boot for your foot. good luck Little Angel

I can, buy an Atomic they're great, smart colours and all the worlds best skiers use them. However they could be completley inappropriate in shape and function, so i echo the above. wink

thank's all for the help.

Yes the GT is a junior boot, but with my lack of weight I thought this would suit me better and less flex I assumed would help too. Any thought's on this point? a lot of the top end boots I see have high flex and with my weight I am worried that they will be like a pair of steel wellies on my feet Happy am I wrong in this assumption.

The bootfitter is a definite for me, but was hoping that one of you could give me some direction on what to try out, price is no issue. I have thin feet at the heel end but a lot wider in the toe area ( I got hobbit feet for sure haha )

I think the best advice that you can be offered over the internet is recommendations for good bootfitters. Profeet in London and Lockwoods in Leamington Spa get (mostly) good reviews here, especially from people with problem feet. CEM also gets good reviews, but I don't think he carries boots in stock but works with what you buy elsewhere. Smallzookeeper also has some renown, for boot fitting as well as cryptic posts, but requires a trip to Chamonix to take advantage of his service.

Otherwise you'll just go on seeing the one name:
Otherwise you'll just go on seeing the one name:
Taff, the course GT has the clog (lower shell) of the X wave and the cuff (upper bit) is a slimed down version for the junior leg. A good fitter should be able to make a boot stiffer or softer than it comes out the box, this way the flex can be tuned to you specifically. there are several boots out there that are wide in the forefoot and narrow in the heel (some more than others) ignor the magazine reviews and get to the fitter for selection of the correct boot... if you want a bargain now is the time to shop, be wary though that stock will be limited in most places and the shop may try to sell you what they have (shouldn't happen in the good places) if you want the best selection then start of season is best time to buy, around November all the stock is in and the shops haven't got too busy Little Angel Little Angel

CEM, I thoroughly agree with what you have announced, however do not forget that there are a lot of competent people that 1) Know what they are talking about even in the springtime(ie. bootfitters) and 2) know how to spell correctly Very Happy
