Apologies if behind a paywall - hopefully of use/interest to some:

First couple of paragraphs below
“Sixty years after it was invented by the British, the chalet ski holiday is under threat from a toxic combination of Covid and Brexit
In the winter of 1958-59, a British 27-year-old travelled from London to the Swiss village of Grindelwald to take up a job. Lovedy Cornish, or Moule as she was then, would be looking after British tourists, mainly cooking and making beds, but she was also making history. For, though no one thought much about it at the time, Lovedy was the world’s first chalet girl.
“We had the upstairs floor of a chalet, the bottom half was owned by a family who ran a hardware store,” she told me this month from her home in Cambridge. “The first group of guests included four public schoolboys, a nurse, a secretary, two American airmen and an English major who was drunken and amorous in turn. So it was what you might call a mixed group.” “

Lovedy Cornish sounds like a rare breed of sheep. Not sure that rebranding herself as Moule (obviously aspiring to a level of single name genius like Prince or Beyonce) was an improvement.

The critical part, “Chalet companies have always relied on young British staff whose relatively low pay is boosted by the offer of accommodation, a lift pass, time to ski and plenty of fun. Almost all have been employed in the UK, where they pay tax and national insurance, while working in the EU as “posted workers”.”

given that moule is also french slang for vagina she would have wanted to avoid hosting in francophone areas of Switzerland to avoid too many titters when placing orders for the chalet.

Brexit will have no negative effect. It will all be blamed at Covid.

Can you do this for the Daily Telegraph’s ski section?

You know it makes sense.

Would you walk into a shop, pick up a copy of the FT and walk off without paying? What you are suggesting is exactly the same. Stealing. Meaning you are a thief if you do it. If you want to consume the content, follow the terms under which it is supplied. The same as you would for any other good or service.

“It’s such a quintessentially British activity, I just think it wouldn’t be the same without them” [English staff]
And their low wage rates. Be honest, this isn't anything to do with the 'quintessentially British' nature of ski hosting. It's a down to 'Local Jobs for Local People' sentiment + Brexit + Covid, which have combined to make their UK-based and UK-staffed business model unprofitable.

Can I safely assume none of the frequent chalet customers voted for Brexit?

Doesn't seem so, but if you register with the Telegraph site I believe you can read 2 articles for free each week which is probably plenty. The Times do the same and includes the weekend editions.
I imagine the extension linked by Poogle is effective but I'm not the habit of reading that much. Just nice to be able to read the occasional article like the one linked in this thread.

Not a safe asssumption by any means, @abc. Many British turkeys voted for a Brexit Christmas.
