Driving around the Dolomites you will notice that the speed camaeras are in grey boxes marked with yellow and black tape. There are a lot of them, for example coming down from Sella Joch there are 3 just on the entrance to Canazei alone. However, people also put their rubbish bins out on the road side to be emptied. You have guessed it; they are grey boxes with black and yellow hazard markings on them as well.

Whilst on my bike, I got stopped by the police for doing 180kph in a 90kph limit in the middle of nowhere. I wasn't marched to a cash point, but I was escorted to the local station where they threatend to impound my bike and deport me....Not one of my best days.
Ended up with a 270 euro fine.....One of my best days.. |
I'd have to say you got away VERY lightly there! Have a feeling things would have worked out a lot worse if you'd been stopped by the UK policec doing 112MPH on an A road.

Absolutely. And 50 euros of the fine was for the exhaust being loud?!? Would have been banned over here..

Many times; The French have a good online portal, in English, if you care to settle - I generally file in 13 without any comeback.

I was under the impression that the French Police have no way of enforcing payment when you are out of the country? I have heard however they were employing UK based debt collectors to recover fines? |
Not sure about France, but I got a couple of parking fines in Oslo a few years back. Ignored them and forgot.
Few months later a UK debt collection agency sent me some letters "on behalf" of the Norwegian authorities. I think Norway sells them the debts for a fraction of the fine, the UK company can then attempt to collect. They must get some success or they wouldn't do it. However I ignored and after a couple of letters, correspondence stopped.

I got caught on the way back this year on the A40, too over two months for the ticket to arrive but guess that because of lockdown, even if they dont chase you in the UK or the fine I expect he next time you drive in Franc in the same vehicle you will get stopped and a much bigger fine

If its your own car, burn the paperwork...
If its a hire car, pay up.
Simple strategy I've used successfully.
