Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

@WindOfChange, thx, credit note would be just as good, as long as there is a 21-22 lift season

Snow started falling at 1200m on Sat evening but it didn't stick low down. Only a few cm's on the car....but 1400-1700m definitely had a nice top up. Maybe some kind of mini micro-climate within the bowl, was surprisingly nice yesterday, then some crud towards the village.

FL heading back over 2000 this week but looking good for cold and snow early next week.

Presume others have received this email from Sagets about PdS season passes.

In summary....if you haven't used the pass at all it will automatically be rolled into next season, with all the free Swiss days and one extra PdS free day for the inconvenience. You can also elect a full refund (by end of April), a credit note, or just gift them the cost of the pass as an act of Covid goodwill (I'l be honest, it's a no from me).

If you have already activated a pass you'll get a credit based on unused portion.

No mention that I can see of anything different for the flash sale passes. Full text below.

Weather wise, looking good for Sun-Wed....expecting 30cm to low levels. Make the most of it if you can as there is a strong signal now for a mild and dry spell from 11th Feb onwards.
I don't expect many more deep cold episodes, maybe only 2 or 3 at best from mid feb - mid apr would be typical.....am already thinking of spring and starting to prep the garden

@zzz, Here you go....

Dear Customer,

As you may know, our ski lifts remain closed until further notice and we have no visibility on an opening for the end of this winter season.

In this context of uncertainty, and comitted to answer your questions, we inform you of our cancellation conditions evolution for Portes du Soleil season passes purchased in Flash Sale.

Haven't you used your skipass?

We simply suggest that you postpon it for the 2021/2022 winter season. This is the most advantageous solution for you: the dates of your skipass are changed automatically and your best rate is guaranteed for next season. Better yet, we also offer you a 1-day Portes du Soleil Adult skipass to invite whoever you want to discover the immensity of our ski area!

If you prefer a credit, your skipass purchase price will be credited on your customer account (or you will receive a discount coupon if you do not have any customer account). This credit will be valid until 04/24/2022 for any order placed on www.skipass-avoriaz.com website. To thank you for your loyalty, we will offer you a free 1-day Portes du Soleil Adult skipass OR an access code to a private sale at 499 € to purchase your Winter 2021/2022 season pass (not transfereablee and not refundable / cancellation insurance available as an option when ordering)

Finally, if you want to be reimbursed, we will credit your skipass purchase price to the bank account used for your payment.

You used your season pass for skiing on the swiss side of Portes du Soleil ski area or use the Prodains cable car?

You can continue to use it as much as you want. By the end, you will have to choose between a credit and a refund. Then, your consumption will be deducted from your skipass purchase price to calculate the amount of your credit or your refund.

Whether you have used your pass or not

Once the postpon, the credit or the refund has been made, your skipass will be deactivated for the current Winter season and you will no longer be able to use it during this period.

To benefit from our cancellation conditions and facilitate your administrative procedures, a specific form will be sent to you by email within 3 weeks. You will have until 04/30/2021 to answer. Thank you for your understanding for this delay, which corresponds to the time required to develop an IT solution for the automation of our cancellation process. This is made essential by the large number of orders to be processed and could not be anticipated as long as the opening of our ski area for the February holidays was still being considered.

Despite the reduction in our activities, we inform you that our teams remain at your disposal to answer your questions. For better efficiency in the treatment and follow-up of your requests, we thank you for contacting us via our contact form: https://www.skipass-avoriaz.com/en/aide/contact

Ooooh... I keep on postponing the year I'll swim through autumn and winter, well impressed!

In fact we tried Morzine and followed the crowds to try to park in Enigre yesterday... but of course had to gear up in Les Allamands (the Manche one), the parking must be full by 8.30am.

The original plan was La Berthe but we ended up behind the Tete d'Angolon, stopping below the Col - wrong decision after wrong decision (we should probably have gone up La Chaila/La Golèse), right decision in the end.

Conclusion: (1) it's nice to adapt to the conditions, but without an offline map and knowldege of routes (or, simply, a guide), better err on the side of caution. (2) I need to buy couteaux.

There was very little parking in Erigne at the weekend by 9am last year and this year it’s become the number 1 destination in Morzine. It’s amazing how the number of people touring and therefore parking outside my house has increased over the last 5 years, although we haven’t been there to experience it this year.

Yes, couteau essential this time of year. I'm guessing La Chailla had melted a bit by the time you got up there? It's pretty icy normally in the morning. I went up the Bostan. Frozen crud most of the way up and down wink
Normal for the time of year. Lovely day though.

Specifically this year it's more than touring. One thing is snowshoeing and xc (both classic and skating) being all the rage, another is families with prams and sleighs ending up there because of the lack of other possibilities. I'm not blaming them, just myself for not starting early!

I fell twice (and then slid) going up at the very start of the climb, it's a new experience with those bindings... But yes it was very nice once out of the forest. The issue was that without having planned ahead, it looked like the route would be up the col d'Angolon, rather than turning East to La Chailla which looked like a dead end. I'm learning, this year I've mostly kept to domains except places I already knew well, so I'm glad I got forced to do conversions Smile

A bit late posting but I managed a day with my 10 year old daughter at Les Crosets last Saturday. It was really relatively quiet with no queues apart from the drag lift over the back of the Grand Conche lift, which was a pity as that seemed to have the best snow on the piste down to there.

Despite the glorious weather all week, there was a lot of low cloud first thing which made it difficult to see in patches, but once it cleared around lunchtime it was glorious - the downside being the warm temperatures made the going rather soft in places but not too bad overall. For a few reasons I've not been able to exercise much over the last few months, so my legs were certainly feeling it by early afternoon.

Pretty much everything on the Swiss side seemed to be open, but we didn't venture over to Champoussin or Morgins to see what the snow was like. I suspect, like Les Crosets, it would be pretty complete, if it could do with a fresh topping.

As the weather was decent, sitting out on a mound of snow eating a takeaway for lunch was no real hardship, but it will be nice once terraces open again at least soon

Hi all,

Planning some trips for next year and found a lovely chalet in Les Gets which ticks all our boxes.

Never been but did do a long weekend on the Swiss side of the PdS last year, staying in Les Crossets.

We are looking at last weekend of Jan into Feb and my main concern is, chances of rain at that of year due to the reasonably low altitude?
Last year we got a day of rain in Les Crossets which is 1600m albeit that was early March.

Am I being overly worried?

Next point, we are a group of confident skiers who ski all day and like to explore. Will the Les Gets/Morzine side keep us happy for a week, with a couple of days over the Avoriaz side thrown in?
We never made it over to Morzine last time, so how easy is the crossing? I see there is a land train but is it walkable in boots?

Thanks all!

@Fridge03,
There's always a chance of rain in Les Gets, it doesn't happen very often but it can.
The walk across Morzine is fine and easily walkable in ski boots, it's sometimes quicker to walk than wait for the Petit Train.
If your group is really into distance and not repeating runs then you will need the PDS Area pass as Les Gets / Morzine will not be enough for you.

@Fridge03,

I like covering distance and would deffo recomend the full Area PdS Pass as @Timc suggests.

Great Skiing between Avoriaz and into Chatel Sector around Pre la Joux and Plaine Dranse.

Also try and do 'the loop' or circuit.

Les Gets to Morzine to Avoriaz to Les Crossets, to Champoussin, to Morgins, to Chatel to Avoriaz and back to Morzine and finally back to Les Gets. Make sure you have a very early start and don't get stuck in the Chatel or Swiss Valley as it would be a very expensive Taxi ride back.

Mont Cherry in Les Gets is fantastic on a Powder day and even thought Mont Cherry is not huge it has some great terrain and normally stays relatively quiet. (This is probably as its Reds and Blacks with only 1 x blue piste so ).

@Fridge03, you have a few options between Les Gets and Avoriaz, walk over to Super Morzine (or use Petit Train), bus to Prodains or Ardent. Super Morzine feels like you skied the whole way but it is not the most interesting bit of the PDS.

I would think you would want at least two days out of LesGets/Morzine but there is a lot to go at. It is a long way from Les Gets to the far
Swiss side (Champoussin/Morgins) you would need to keep moving and pick the right routes.

If you have a car you could drive round to Chatel and access the Swiss side from there, then not worry about getting back for last lift. We often do this in reverse if skiing in Morzine/Les Gets.

Hi all,

Thanks for the advice! It appears the crossing across Morzine isn't as bad as I had thought! We may still consider basing ourselves in Morzine rather than Les Gets for easier access up to the rest of the PdS, but I do like the appeal of where we have found in Les Gets that is next door to the lift and is ski back in.

I would definitely stay in Morzine. Otherwise you’ll end up having to cut your day short to make sure you have time to traipse across town to catch the Pleney bubble back to Les Gets. Also, tbh, the Les Gets skiing is pretty dull. The runs are short, unchallenging and often busy.

It depends how challenging the OP wants. I found the runs off Ranfouilly, Chamrousse and Nyon quite satisfying. And others have already commented on Mont Chery. You wouldn't want to be restricted to those all week though, so you will have to accept the Morzine bottleneck on days you venture further.

(But your statement is true for Pleney which does have a lot of beginners).

@Fridge03, If you decide to stay in Les Gets and go for a really long day out to Switzerland and spend a long time there then there is just the one lift that you HAVE to get in order to get back to Les Gets. As long as you have taken the Rochassons lift from Pre La Joux to get back to the Lindarets valley you can ski back to Ardent and take the free bus to Morzine and then a standard bus to Les Gets ( it used to cost 1 Euro), otherwise it's a 60k taxi journey.

Same route home if you’re in the Les Crosets area, Grand Conche or Swiss Mossettes lift and then all the way down Abricotine to Lindarets then down to Ardent. Thigh burner if you do it non-stop.

Anyone managed to sort their passes yet?
We had the mail yesterday. (SERMA), clicked through the link.
We have 3 season passes associated with that account, and wanted to swap the 2 flash ones for next year, and get credit for the BoarderPass so that our kids can just use the credit whenever they want to go out.
The site is a bit funky to say the least.
First up it showed my pass, and asked what I wanted to do:
Report, Credit, Refund or Donate?
So I chose REPORT, which is the option to swap it for next years pass - I then clicked confirm.
It did not offer options for any of the other passes.
It took me straight to a summary screen, where it had also automatically applied the REPORT option to Mrs WoC pass, which is fin as its what we would have chose, but did not show the BoarderPass at all?
Gonna call them later to see what the next steps should be.
Just wondered if anyone else had had any joy with their automated system.

re rolling over lift passes

I have 3 seasons passes and my options were report, credit, refund or keep

I clicked 'keep' as what does 'report' mean and the email says if you wish to donate to not do it through the link but email them directly.
I assumed 'keep' meant keep the lift passes as i dont want a refund or credit
Then pressed 'submit' thinking it would give me an explanation but it has defaulted all the passes to 'keep' and i can't change the choice.
I am hoping it didn't mean that the company can 'keep' my lift passes!!

I have emailed them to see what is happening rolling eyes

@bobhitch, 'report' is to postpone, to next season

I got this message after 'reporting'.

"The dates of your pass are automaticly postponed, you keep your advantages and the rate you had the chance to get during our "Flash sale "* is so guaranteed for the next season (non changeable and non refundable pass). We also offer you a Winter 2021/2022 Portes du Soleil Adult free day skipass (a voucher will be sent to you in a next mail).
*Please note that the 499€ rate will no longer be offered except for this private sale.
As soon as your choice has been validated, your pass will no longer be usable for the end of this season, but don't worry, it will be automatically activated next season on your first use of our terminals ski lifts.
If you had chosen the "pick-up" option, your pass will be available at our lift pass office from this summer."

The 'keep' option is confusing....not sure what it means as I didn't select. Am guessing it means they keep them? By default if you don't click the link the pass is donated?....so maybe Keep is another chance to donate if you clicked the link? Misleading though

Here's yesterdays vid for those interested in current conditions. Another 10-15cm has fallen since.
I've never come down the Ranfoilly with such amazing conditions, it's usually pisted 50+m wide, but now there's just a single piste track and the rest is deep powder. Too light and fluffy yesterday to stay floating for long, so had to keep using the piste track to regain speed. Noticed a lot of people using the cross country circuit around the Plan Joux lake area between Chamossiere and Rainfolly.

Even leaving at 1030 I still got second tracks down. But later on when the sun came out one of the restaurant owners was ferrying his mates up on a skidoo, local instructors etc.
