Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Austria residents – Naturfreunde insurance

For insurance purposes, I’m currently a member of the Alpenverein Österreich but am thinking of switching to Naturfreunde when the new membership for 2021 starts in September. It’s the same price and as far as I can tell is a very similar Alpine club with their own huts and courses etc. and the insurance appears to cover pretty much anything you can do in mountains apart from aerial sports like paragliding (which I don’t partake in).

Does anyone have any experience of the club or insurance? Although I don’t have any direct comparison, as despite my stellar accident record rolling eyes I’ve always managed to remain mobile and have never needed to claim from the ÖAV or the ÖAMTC (who we also hold an enhanced policy with).

No personal experience, but a few friends of mine in IBK are members of the kayak section of it (KNI or something like that). Sounds like a nice group of people and they get access to pretty cheap coaching and training courses and so on. No idea about the insurance side of it though, sorry!

@Scarlet, I just have normal accident insurance with Zurich. But I don't participate in any extreme sports. I know the OAMTC and Alpenverein insurances are popular with friends, so they might consider an alternative.

@Scarlet, I've successfully used my OAMTC Insurance for summer helicopter recovery. I think it is horses for courses. In the case of a big claim up you have to announce all potential insurers anyhow and the share the costs between them.
In the winter I would have to declare my ski teacher's insurance and the OAMTC insurance and they would split the bill.

@flangesax, fair enough, I thought something like that might happen. There’s a chance I don’t actually need more insurance as we have the OAMTC coverage anyway, but I get other benefits with the alpine club membership so that was what I was going for. I think the lift pass comes with rescue cover too...
