Or why book at all?
What's the goal(s) you're trying to achieve?
1) It can be cancelled with no penalty. Nothing lost even if I change my mind. And if things improves, I'm first in line.
2) It's cost me only beer money even if I end up not using it.
3) I think it may sell out (whatever "it" may be, lodging, flight, crossing...)
4) I think the price would go up
5) I've been doing this every year, I'm doing it again
(Wish I could do this as a pole)

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

You need to Login to know who's really who.

Dood, nobody wants to hear what you're doing with your pole.
Wait until the travel industry is nearly bust, and then book.
Will be some epic deals lastminute.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

You'll need to Register first of course.

The prices of Japan flights were shooting up ~£100pw. Booked with Opodo in the end, each outbound and return journey under the flight number of two reputable flag-carrier airlines. Would rather have gone with a single carrier but that's my fault for not booking early enough! My gamble is that the capacity of the various airlines is dropping very sharply to meet the new, lower demand whereas accommodation and car rental will be forced to drop their prices.

I'm not booking now, but I like booking well in advance. Gives me peace of mind, and something to look forward to. I get better seats on the plane for the long long ride over. Also, single rooms are often in short supply and go quickly.
