Having never been a member of scgb I never read these type of threads. But this was frothing at the top long enough to make me open it.
WOW, just WOW!!! The audacity of these feckers beggars belief. There is zero credibility in the line they are trying to take. “I thought it was ours anyway, so I thought we would trademark it”. It would be comical if it wasn’t so sinister. “I’m just a bumbling fool and I made a boo boo on my own, I wasn’t representing the scgb when I made that boo boo” ignore my angel heavy cv, “Can we be friends, I won’t charge you”
Where is white-power-point Gerry when you need him?

@dode, WOW was my reaction exactly. I occasionally dip into this thread, read a couple of posts, sigh and move on. This time I had to go back half a dozen pages and couldn't believe what I was reading. In the relatively short time I have been skiing I have never found any sufficiently good reason to join the SCGB, but I will now never consider it. I feel for all those who have depended on them for their income, and still do.

@Jehu, I very rarely log into facebook, but couldn't find any posting by Gerry on SCGB yesterday. Assume he is using his own account, and I don't know his user name.
If you have access to anything he is saying that suggests he had prior knowledge, it was all planned, or is contrary to the explanation given so far, maybe you could take a few screen shots before he deletes everything. Might be useful to @Admin if the situation goes pear shaped.

What did the director of the SCGB say? Did he wish someone's cancer was terminal and the family were at best, ill?
Surely no one would say anything like that.

@davidof, It was here on the forum. The offending comment was deleted after about 15 mins. The offending sock was banned by Admin. Apparently there is no trace left of the death threat apart from in the memory of myself and several snowheads on line at the time. Gerry's defence was that he had had a few drinks. This was some time ago now. But hey I'm still alive

@Hurtle, @Dave of the Marmottes, Thank you. Had an op this time, High-intensity focused ultrasound (not the cosmetic version ) , just before Christmas. Had another op last week to sort out a problem caused by the Radiotherapy. Back to UHS tomorrow hopefully to be told all ok from that op. and then a Scan week after to check the Christmas op has settled down OK!

Whatever, it's disgusting for a Director of SCGB to behave that way and another reason why they need a clear out.
If there are any Directors, senior staff or honoraries of Ski Club of Great Britain Ltd reading about this and the trademark subterfuge, they should be thinking about their positions.
Either (1) they knew all about the trademark plot because it was discussed openly at a Council meeting or (2) it was a few arrogant rogue actors from the 'It's easier to ask forgiveness than to beg for permission' school of management
If they are in (1) they should resign immediately. If they are in (2) they should resign immediately or be made to resign immediately and that would include the Chairman.
Some of them may be totally innocent but will need to worry about their good name being associated with it - eg anyone working in a professional capacity where ethics are vital - so they should get the hell out and distance themselves, legally if necessary, from the fallout.
Therefore the people that really should be considering their positions include:

It is all too easy to Google someone and discover a stink like this. It really isn't a good look. Imagine you were thinking of doing a sensitive business deal with any of the above and some deep Google searching was part of your due diligence. If I was a Director of SCGB right now and I had nothing to do with the subterfuge, I would have resigned already and I would be making a public statement on Linked-In etc about why.
I was looking at this again:
Quote: |
Yep. My error I am afraid. I'm a new non-exec at the Ski Club and I have been doing a lot of work tidying up the Ski Club trademarks and trademark registrations. You use 'Ski Club' a lot on your forum so I had assumed it was a Ski Club thing and applied for the registration. However, our chairman subsequently put me straight so I have not progressed it. You will note that it says 'examination' but not granted. It times out in 28 days if I don't progress (which I do not intend to). However, happy to progress on your behalf and complete and transfer if it is of interest. It would cost you £350 to complete and £50 for the transfer if granted. To be clear there are the UK IPO fees. I wouldn't charge you for my time. However, just a point that if you don't decide to do this, because you have not trademarked it to-date, the name is currently 'open season' for anybody to apply for. By the way, it is very unlikely that you would get a registration in the USA because 'SnowHeads' is a common euphemism for a skier and is common parlance. Apologies for the misunderstanding. |
In my career I have received training in body language and statement analysis - a while back but you don't forget.Here we have a classic statement from a liar:
Over-explaining
Attempting to distance themselves
Obfuscation
Lack of emotional language
Playing down the seriousness
Elevating his standing so as not to be challenged - "I wouldn't charge you for my time."
I really hope that @Admin engages professional help like a Dispute Resolution Lawyer (ADR) as previously mentioned. At least talk to one in the first instance. People like the above need to understand it's serious, it needs sorting out professionally, it will cost them what it costs!

Gerry was commenting in the SCGB members and council group. Oddly Tony the trademark expert has said nothing to this group, which is supposed to improve communication between members and council. Gerry said he knew nothing but was hoping to find out at a Council meeting on Thursday. The SCGB website seems to have stopped publishing Council meeting minutes.

@ecureuil,
Indeed that's what makes it even odder. I can sorta believe the pluckly dabbler or even over confidence in his own abilities but given his political role wouldn't that make you more cautious to do a modicum of due dilligence when doing things on behalf of businesses to which you are affiliated.
I know it's old fashioned to suspect any sort of ethical or professional standards around anything political parties do so perhaps it's just in keeping with that and never entered his head. It was legal therefore there was nothing to stop him.

When it comes to dirty tricks I don't think "grassing" someone to unrelated third parties they may happen to be associated with is particularly fair. Additionally it can make the grasser look slightly deranged.

Interesting timing;
- application to trademark on 3rd August;
- Thursday 30th September for a bit of chat, a whole 3 days in the future at this point;
- the last date for anyone to lodge any objections to the trademark application being a whole 3 days later than that, only one being a weekday.
I wonder if the three dates might be related in some way
How could anything possibly go wrong?

@Fat George, Well quite but by now we hope that big Trev has had the decency to speak to @admin and that things are slightly more advanced re SCGB proving they thave withdrawn or abandoned the TM application unconditionally.
Not that they have a nice chat about it at council then Tony Harris in another "error" accidentally pays the fee to progress it which kicks it into a new legal phase of @admin needing to oppose it. I tend to think given what TH has said the legal oppostion would be pretty easy but obviously might involve further costs.

Mentioning it on their own website wouldn't be grassing to unrelated third parties. I assume only members can read it. Surely, it would be in the interests of all members to know what their directors are doing?
Some may even object strongly to what has happened, and voice their opinions , Some may even happen to have a good relationship with the Directors, and could advise a bit of common sense.

I was referring to the LibDems re grassing. I don't think members can interact with the SCGB council on their own website anymore only via facebook group or by emailing them.

@Fat George,
The first 40 days are for the relevant body to examine if they have a case or not, there is then a further 2 month period for objections to be raised.
According to gov.uk it's still in the examination phase, so whatever admin is doing in the background they haven't withdrawn the application or it's not reached that state officially.
