Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Have you read the reasons why they stopped allowing attestations to be downloaded on the link Claud B posted?
What a load of bollox, mind you this was all put together rather swiftly and they maybe should have thought more about the best ways of implementation

So - for info- a friend in the village has just picked his partner up from GVA. The Swiss border is closed for such trips so he had to park in Ferney-Voltaire and she had to get a taxi out to meet him from the airport.
Having said that they weren’t pulled over on the French side at all apart from a slight grilling from French customs on disembarkation. RHD Car rereg on French plates.

Still in Meribel-Mottaret. Beautiful weather but very quiet. The Huit a 8 in Chatelet and Sherpa supermarket in the centre have just closed on account of positive coronavirus tests in the community. Ski touring and cycling in the area are banned. British residents are still allowed to repatriate if you complete an attestation form https://www.facebook.com/notes/british-embassy-paris/movement-in-or-through-france-youll-need-an-attestation-for-that/3528271237245372/. A friend who drove back from les Arcs, two days ago, was stopped three times by Gendarmes but had no problems because he had the correct paperwork and Eurotunnel reservation. The roads were very quiet and fuel was available.

Sounds good, the supermarkets around me in the UK don't have any collections available for the next three weeks. The UK ones are saying that they are taking on more staff though.

I have one French supermarket loyalty card as well as a couple of UK ones and am getting emails from them all on their plans.

Probably wise- a policewoman friend says she spends her evenings battling the local rascals. They are using the opportunity to "stay at home, drink, do drugs and beat their women."

Charming!

@stewart woodward, I'm guessing that the Tignes supermarkets will have more fresh stuff than they need for the number of people left in the station.

Not much booze left in the supermarkets near me, plenty of cheddar though.

Maximum fine is now 3700 euros plus 6 months prison if you are caught outside without permission 4 times.
You will get a 3 year driving ban if you are caught in your car without permission.

However France's constitutional court says the government is giving conflicting and unclear information about what is allowed (no shit sherlock!) and has given the govt. 48 hours to clarify things. This is expected to lead to much tighter restrictions.

Greater clarification would be good, though more restrictions wouldn't be. I've been told that Isere Prefect has banned people from going out to exercise as too many people are still congregating in Grenoble. In our small town, people are being sensible and keeping their distance while out and I haven't seen any controls while wandering / cycling to the local shops.

Checkpoints here to the north of Grenoble with everyone controlled. Given the unclear nature of the advice. Eduoard Philippe tonight said "1 hour up to 1km from home for sporting activities" which changes the previous local advice I wouldn't rely on the police giving fines based on what you look like. We've got some real pocket Hitlers around here, once ginger haired gendarme is a real fascist.

There was a guy fined on a bike outside his front door in the Paris suburbs but when CheckNews contacted the interior ministry they said cycling close to home was fine.

There's a general feeling that the scape goating of a few joggers is to distract from the govt incompetence in reacting to the crisis.

Has anyone heard anything more about Brits driving back to the UK? The Foreign Office advised, last night, that all UK nationals should return home now, as they might not be able get back soon. I think that this mainly relates to the availability of flights. Maybe naively, I believe that the Eurotunnel will keep operating, so am inclined to stay put for the time being. It is rather cloudy in Meribel today, after a glorious week of good weather.

Ok so the government information about the "1 hour / 1 km" can be tightened at a local level by the prefect and then further by the mayor. In le Sappey (small community north of Grenoble) they've said if you have a house you can only exercise in your garden! However actually finding the bye-laws seems like mission impossible. So nationally you can be in the right but some jump up pocket dictator can claim there is some law that you've not seen and cannot access which gives him the right to issue a fine. The information about not cycling came from the French cycling federation, so not legal, but the police are issuing fines left and right to anyone they catch on two wheels on the back of it.

The local tightening seems to be a device being used by the government semi officially so they can appear to be the good guys and rather than being a single point where people can dispute their rules you have to go after your local community instead.

@Mike S, @Claude B, at the moment we’re sitting tight in the Aravis. We came out here just before the French lock down and have a tunnel crossing booked next month. Our vehicle has French plates so not sure how we’d fare on either side of the channel even with our attestation. Puzzled

I've seen complaints elsewhere about over the top actions in Chartreuse Sad I'm thankful that there appears to be a very pragmatic approach here atm.

I'm just mapping out a little walk, never more than 1km from mine, all on road but including some vertical. Need to counter the effects of too much food and booze. No sign of the new form yet.

Yes I've done the same on a map.

Here is the current law in force: http://www.isere.gouv.fr/content/download/47098/327081/file/D%C3%A9cret%202020-260%20du%2016%20mars%202020%20portant%20r%C3%A9glementation%20des%20d%C3%A9placements.pdf

Maybe a new one will be published following the PMs speech?

That FO advise had us thinking for all of 30secs Laughing

Seriously my mother will be 97 soon and she's in a home so I couldn't see her.

Our daughters are doing their best in Worthing and do tug the OH's heartstrings, and one does have asthma but they seem to be managing.

As for health cover etc, we are not in the system, but I'm in the process of having my knee examined.

Went to see my local Dr who is also my neighbour about three weeks ago, he knows how I'm reasonably active, he referred me to get an MRI examination, and the date was set for April 2nd (imagine that speed in the UK), yesterday I received a phone call fully expecting the appt to be cancelled (it's in Gap 1hr 40m) and it was just changing the time.

As for the 1hr 1km we can live with that if we choose to, where we are we can disappear out the back and be gone for as long as we want.

I still find the whole cycling thing very frustrating and if you go to https://www.interieur.gouv.fr/Accueil it has not been updated since last week!!

Is there somewhere else with a new form where you put the time and date etc etc

Chill wind here this morning but reasonably clear and bright not the grim weather that was forecast.

...

5o Déplacements brefs, dans la limite d’une heure quotidienne et dans un rayon maximal d’un kilomètre autour du domicile, liés soit à l’activité physique individuelle des personnes, à l’exclusion de toute pratique sportive collective et de toute proximité avec d’autres personnes, soit à la promenade avec les seules personnes regroupées dans un même domicile, soit aux besoins des animaux de compagnie;

There was nothing in the published text that I could find about putting a time on the form although that was said verbally (so none binding I assume).

I went out earlier with la petite to do a bit of local shopping; I just added the time onto the forms we've been using in freehand. I spotted the gendarmes in a car doing spot checks further down the road - that's the first one I seen here in St Egreve, so I guess they're stepping things up. The park across the road now has signs on saying not to enter on risk of a fine; they weren't there yesterday. Air quality definitely better though.

OH going out for a run, she's not bothering putting the time on the form, chances are that she will not even see anyone, and then if she does she can show them the timer on her watch Laughing

So if I go into my garage which is in the building next to me to go on my indoor cycle trainer (turbo) am I only limited to an hour?

Mind you those that know turbo training will appreciate an hour is about the max you're able to do on them if cycling reasonably hard.

We returned to UK from Chamonix yesterday.

Chamonix was very sensible about the measures. No time required on forms. Seemed to tolerate cycling individually. No checks on radius.

Did not encounter one check on the whole trip back.

Had to call Eurotunnel to change booking. Not possible on-line.

UK is where France was at last Monday-Wednesday. mixture of denial and disbelief in part. There really is a toilet roll problem, and laundry cleanser, and chicken. Take some back if you can.

Had an email from Eurotunnel today....Sorry - it’s lengthy....

“ We wanted to update you on where we are with our service. We are still operating passenger shuttles, and currently trying to help everyone who needs to get back to the UK from abroad to do so.

Our freight service is in high demand as we help to keep supermarkets' shelves stocked, medicines, medical equipment and other vital supplies coming into the country.

If you have a booking and will be arriving at our terminal in the next few days at a different time (or even day) to the booked one, please just come to check-in – we know this is hard for everyone and we will get you on the next available shuttle without charging the usual amendment fees. Don’t worry about calling us – we’ll try and get you home as soon as possible, although there may be a bit of a wait – particularly if you’re in a large vehicle as demand is higher than bookings.

If you have an upcoming booking please be reassured that we plan to continue to run, but it’s important to check whether the border authorities will allow you through. The French authorities particularly are only allowing essential travel. If you will not now be able to travel, you are able to amend your booking to within a year of the date you originally made the booking on most ticket types. If you purchased a Flexiplus ticket you are entitled to a full refund if you would prefer.

If you do not want to rebook you ticket for alternative dates, please note that we will only consider refunds for those travellers who bought travel insurance through us. Otherwise, you may want to contact your own travel insurance provider to make a claim through them.

Travel plans can change, and that’s why we have more flexible terms and conditions than most travel providers as we know our customers appreciate it. At times like these, it’s important to protect our staff and our business too, and we need to make sure we can keep supporting both passenger and freight services to get produce and people through the tunnel.

If you have tried calling us and had trouble getting through, please bear with us – we are trying our very best. If your booking is not in the next two weeks please wait another week before trying to contact us so we can prioritise customers with immediate issues, and our vital freight service.”
