Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Avalanche in La Plagne

I hear there was an avalanche in la plagne - does anyone have any details? I gather 4 people, 1 dead, 1 missing and 2 recovered. More than 100 people searching - terrible news.

That report says the any risk was 4. I'm pretty sure it was 3 in Les Arcs, I checked before heading off-piste today.

We were skiing down Kamikaze around that time and saw what looked like 3 people being rescued from an avalanche about 100m from the piste. The line of searchers appeared to be further down when we looked back across the valley later - not sure if it was a separate incident.

Also saw the helicopter hovering near the bottom of Verdons Sud lift, looked like there had been another slide there with people involved.

A very sad illustration of how dangerous it can be not far from the piste.

50cm deep at the fracture, sounds like the last recent dump of snow all went. The risk in 3V was 4 yesterday with warming temperatures. I gave it a miss.

@rob@rar, in your report, under the heading "A third person was reported missing" is the sentence "A third person, not equipped with an avalanche victim detector (DVA), was reported missing. She was located with the detector and then with the probe".
The first part suggests she was not wearing a Transceiver, so what is the "detector" they used?

She could have had recco tags on her clothes, or from heat detection

@Jonpim, the only thing I can think of is a Recco reflector, as @alasdair.graham said. Or a dog.
