Poster: A snowHead

Does anyone know where there is enough snow in Europe to ski on and preferably also stay in; in late October/early November. All advise would be great, thanks heaps.

Only a few resorts with glaciers will offer any skiing. Tignes will be open, Les Deux Alpes (weekends only?), or Sölden, maybe a couple of others?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

suecluff, just as rob@rar.org.uk says, not much really, just glaciers and they're not all open all year anyway so you'd need to check them out. I think this list includes most of the more extensive ones but I haven't been that time of year so I don't know for sure:
Austria: Kaprun (Kitzsteinhorn), Neustift (Stubai), Mayrhofen (Hintertux)
France: Alpe d'Huez, Argentiere/Chamonix, La Grave, Les Deux Alpes, Tignes, Val Thorens
Italy: Cervinia
Switzerland: Les Diablerets, Saas Fee

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

2Alpes is open (briefly) at that time for the Mondial, but Tignes is shut.

Are you sure? I've skied Tignes in the last week of October. I thought Tignes was only shut in September (snow conditions allowing, of course)?

Hintertux would be open I am sure, and can offer reasonable amounts of skiing at that time of year. I can recommend Badhotel Kirchler as a place to stay if you do go there http://www.badhotel-kirchler.at/ .

I agree with Ray Zorro, also the the rindererhof is excellent (placed right next to the gondola) and owned by the same family as the badhotel

Tignes is generally open, but quite a bit of the area is in use for slalom courses. I understand these have got to the stage now where adjoining courses need to be set in conjunction with each other so that missing a gate on one course doesn't take out the skier on the next.

Yes that's right. It can get chaotic up there, and I'd like to see a bit more space between lanes if possible.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Basically (if this is not already clear) this is not really a time to ski in Europe. The season used to start in early December, but even that is really a matter of luck these days - you might get very little snow, or none, except where there is snow left from the year before on the glaciers.

snowball, Of course you didn't come to last year's PSB ... Glaciers may not be huge, but they can still be huge fun - and that was the worst snow for years!
