Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

When I was younger I would be quite assertive in a lift queue but nowadays I'm happy to go with the flow. The most I'm likely to lose is missing a couple of chairs and that's hardly the end of the world. Life's too short to worry about such things. although failure to fill all the seats irritates me as it's why many lift queues exist.

I did have an unusual incident yesterday - after passing through the barriers on a 'moving carpet' chairlift (Arpette, La Plagne) the lady in the lane to my right decided to move left to my lane so I had to move to the right. The lady to my right obviously wanted to sit with her and moved left as well. I had little choice but to shout at her as otherwise one of them would have ended up sitting on my lap. I ended up sitting between the two of them.

Regarding conversations on chairlifts, I very rarely start them unless I observe a snowHeads sticker which I take as an invitation and which I will always respond to. Occasionally I hear a question which I can easily answer, so I do (e.g. (in English) "I wonder what those wires and pylons are for"). That normally surprises people speaking English who have assumed their conversation was private.

Sometimes I will get into a conversation with a French person despite my very limited vocab. Once, a Frenchman refused to talk to me (even in French) once he realised I was from the UK despite starting the conversation. On another occasion I had a long discussion in my limited French about the architecture of Les Arcs, how Arcs 1950 was breaking the rules and what an utter disgrace Club Med 1600 was - we were completely agreed.

A nice one yesterday.

Went to lift the chairlift bar towards the end of the lift ride, pretty close to the end and in the ‘safe zone’ and it wouldn’t budge, so I assumed someone had a phobia and so wanted to wait to the last possible second

Waited to the last possible second and it still wouldn’t budge....turned out the bloke at the far end of the chair was fast asleep

Luckily the liftie stopped it just as we started to turn round to go back down again

That reminds me of being in a gondola with two Russians in Verbier once. I kept VERY quiet while they had a conversation about selling arms. Skullie

The queues redeemed themselves today despite being even busier. Met some nice Dutch folks who spoke superb English and we shared a few laughs and experiences. No pushing or shoving not an etiquette violation to be seen and it bloody improved the day.

I also try to chat up international female ski racers who do a lot of off season training at my local. Had a crack at Lindsay Vonn once, but she wasn't keen Not sure if it was anti snowboarder or anti slightly overweight middle aged loser prejudice behind that. I got over it pretty quickly.

6 man chair. One bloke stood at the starting gates with his skis broadside, straddling the two left hand ones (I see him there for at least three chairs while he waits for someone). I arrive and am interested in using one of these gates to balance vs three other chaps on the right, but he stares at me as if to say "It's not busy, you can use gate 3 or get the next chair".

The kicker?

I saw him doing this manoeuvre again, at another chair, the same day, but his buddy caught up with him before I did.
