Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

@Benjiboards, getting to Kufstein from Munich airport is relatively straightforward. First you will need to take an S bahn into Munich itself. There are two lines the S1 and S8, if I were you I would only use the S8, the S1 is rather slow. There are two train stations in Munich from where you can catch a train to Kufstein, either the Hauptbahnhof (main train station) or Munich Ost (East). There are two types of train to Kufstein either the regional trains which run once an hour or the long distance EC trains to Innsbruck and beyond which run every two hours. Personally I would suggest catching a regional train from Munich Ost, shorter from the airport and generally quieter trains, they start at the Hauptbahnhof so you can catch them there too. If you use an EC train go the the Hauptbahnhof, they can get very crowded, getting a seat can be difficult. You can get train times and buy tickets at https://www.bahn.com/en/view/index.shtml there is an app too, both website and app are in English.

I know there are buses from Kufstein to Ellmau but no idea how often etc. Best place to get info is at https://www.skiwelt.at/en/ where there will be a section called "Arrival" or similar with travel details. If you do end up using one of the public bus services you should be able to book a ticket for the entire Munich airport to Ellmau journey using the Austrian Railway website or app https://www.oebb.at/en/

I reccommend the Munich Ost option, get a Bayern ticket (only valid on the regional trains). Then you can either bus or taxi to Ellmau. If you go for a taxi pre-book it. We get the hotel to organise ours.

We always get Bayern ticket and change a Munich ost. Use Google maps and it will tell you which platform to transfer to. Bayern ticket only valid on Meridian train (blue).

Contact your accommodation before travel and ask them to post Wilder Kaiser Card or maybe it can be emailed. This allows free bus travel.

Thanks for all your replies, been so helpful, think we are going for a Bayern ticket using the S8 then regional train from Munich OST
Does anyone know if there will be taxis at Kufstein, I’m not sure about booking a taxi as not sure which train we will catch time wise due to not knowing how long it will take to get luggage etc at the airport, thanks again

The wilder kaiser tourist board website has a great page for all the different ways to arrive including which local train stations have direct busses, to which towns, with timetables

https://www.wilderkaiser.info/en/service/travel-planning/arriving-by-train-wilder-kaiser.html

There is also an airport transfers page, with the Tirol taxi website offering transfers to/from Kuffstein station too

https://www.wilderkaiser.info/en/service/travel-planning/airport-transfer.html

So I think you could
1. Link together two local busses
2. Change trains to a different station with a direct bus service to ellmau
3. Book a transfer with four seasons (tirol-taxi.at)
4. Take a taxi on arrival

We were just on Söll so used the local bus (5 euros) to Kuffstein and then direct train to Munich

Hope this helps
