Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Kamchatka heliskiing early May?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
An ex-colleague is looking to find people for a heliski week in Kamchatka in the first week of May. The group would be 12 people, with 3 guides. My colleague knows the French guides who set up the company running the whole thing. He asked me if I was interested and I suddenly realised that paying €6.5k (plus flights) seems a lot more accessible than €12k or whatever the Alaska ones cost.

Kamchatka seems to have amazing views, but I'm less sure about the quality of snow. Still, there's gotta be SOME powder if you're dropped by heli.

Still wondering about the Russian heli risk...and about how on earth I'd find another holiday week. (If I went, I'd have to skip the EOSB for sure).

Any advice? Anyone else interested?

Probably not this year - sold out on vacation days but would consider in the future. I'm guessing more spring corn than cold smoke powder at that time of year, based on the season in Japan (to the south I know being relatively short) but that's just ill-informed punting.

Be interested in particular re insurance arrangements and whether there are factors re Russia and helis that mean very specialist cover is necessary.

@horizon, I know quite a few people (wealthy Scandis) and guides who have done it and all reviews are ecstatically positive.

One of the guides that your mate probably knows is Stéphane Hottinger ?

He was on holiday with his wife when I was touring in Siberia and the guy running the operation there, Dimitri is the Russian that they work with in Kamchatka.

It's on my bucket list, but I think it will probably stay there Sad

I did a week (28.4.19) with Heliski Russia. Well run operation. Marco Gaiani (ex Chamonix guide) is lead guide. Lots of Swiss/French etc guides out there. We took a British guide (Rick Marchant) with us. Focusing on the snow: no significant powder that week despite promising signs in the days prior. Spring/transforming conditions. Temps rocketed on day 3 and 4. We left 1 or 2 days early. There is a lot good about it but it’s a long way to go. More information available if needed.
