I get the sense that there are some restrictive local laws in Austria regarding holiday apartment rentals.
Airbnb etc. seem to have far fewer options than I would see in Italy, France or Switzerland.
How do you go about renting apartments in Austria, or is it simply not the done thing?

We ski in Skiwelt area of Tirol and the skiwelt website has an excellent accommodation section, which is always our first option when searching for accommodation.

@Adam123, Almost all Austrian resorts have a very efficient reservation service run by the local tourist office. I would imagine it is a good deal cheaper than using one of the large international reservations systems (they will have to pay to join the local tourism association anyway) and will give them more flexibility.

Switzerland and France have a lot of resorts with huge numbers of second homes.
Not so in Austria, hence fewer Airbnb.

Short term basis.
Have tried local tourist offices without success. Granted I'm looking for a weekend in peak season, though it does seem manageable to do this in many Swiss resorts.
Foolishly booked flights (to Zurich) before looking at accommodation

@holidayloverxx, that's good, we (as in our business) has to pay to join the various associations, some of which are compulsory!

Yes, of course we can book what is clearly available.
Just curious what drives the aparent difference by nation, and whether there's anything I'm missing.
Seems not.
