Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

New Boots or custom liners?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi folks.

I've been using my Head Vector EVO 130 flex boots for three years and love em. But this season the (stock) liners seem to be coming to the end of their useful life as I now have to tighten them to the max and keep tightening the straps throughout the day. Shells and buckles are fine.

Because I love them so I'm considering shelling out for (probably ZipFit) liners, but the cost isn't that much less than replacing the boots (assuming I can get a decent end of season deal in a month or two)

I probably ski 30 days a year or more, mostly frontside. I'm 52, quite tall (193cm) and 105kg so quite hard on boots. Would Zipfits last longer than new boots?

Current skis are Head i.Rally 177 cm.

Cheers in advance.

@Tiredoldskibum, I think there are potential collateral benefits to new liners in existing shells. My last boots had SIDAS foamed liners after (?) ~120 days which gave an extremely precise fit and lasted another ~200 days. So I defo got my money's worth out of the shells.

Just wish I'd had the non-standard vibram soles replaced when they started to wear...

@Tiredoldskibum, zipfit can be moved from shell to shell, so, if the fit of the current shell is good you could put a liner in to that and then move it in another 2 seasons time, the shell normally will do double what the stock liner will do, Zipfit if you look after them and the shell volume is good can last 400-500 days skiing

@Tiredoldskibum, My last pair of boots, fitted by @CEM, lasted about 70 days on the stock liners, I went back and had Zipfits fitted, and did about another 600 days on them (Dry slope instructor as well as skiing most of the winter season in the alps), so very well worth while. Also realized that the fit with Zipfits is better and more consistent than the originals, so with my "new" boots went with Zipfits straight away - they are now half way through their third season, having done about 200 days - and good enough that I still think of them as my new boots.

Get the Zipfits... as CEM says, you can alwasy move them over to a new set of boots when needed, so get 'em now and you could save the need for new boot shells (if they are the right size).
