Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi going with a group of 15 mixed ability skiers first week of Feb to Neilson's hotel in Penia. Am trying to decide wether to hire skis in Alba or Canezi. Also , one of our group will be having lessons and if she has lessons in Alba looks like she will be cut off from the rest of the group in the afternoon?
any thoughts appreciated . any one know of a ski hire shop near the lifts in either Alba or Canezi that has lockers |? are there lockers at the bottom of the lifts ?
many thanks

We stayed there last year, yes there are lockers next to the lift in Alba, some of our group hired skis from there and seemed happy with them.

Yes, 1 person hired in Canazei, not sure why he did because the prices were similar, but it was a pain going to collect them for the first days skiing. Getting the lift from Alba in the morning was much quicker than Canazei, also less queues.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

We are doing the same thing with a group of 10 the following week. It looks to me as if Ski Paolo (https://www.skipaolo.it/en) is the place to rent from (lockers at the nearest lifts in Alba going up both sides of the valley in Alba). However, they are not taking bookings in February. I do not know whether that might change, or whether they are fully booked, or whether we could walk in and hire.
We are asking for advice from Neilson but have heard nothing. It would be great if you could post further advice if you have any during your trip.

Why don't you give them a call and ask? I've always found the Italian rental shops and ski schools very helpful.

We hired in Canazei last year via the TO, they used Marmolada ski hire. Oldest and most worn kit I’ve had so would avoid them but there was at least one other in town.

@DominicM, The shop told me you can just turn up on the day - or, do as I did, and phone Neilson. They use the same shop so I booked through the TO

@floswift,
When we were staying in Alba our friends nephew had lessons based from Canazei but the meeting place was Pecol which is easily reached from the Alba cable car.
Maybe worth enquiring about.
