Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Where is the best snow in Europe at present?

Watching ski Sunday, and some of the coverage online of various events, it seems to me that snow is still scarce in many areas and I just wondered if it was really good anywhere in Europe?

I'm not there yet, but there still seems to be plenty of snow on the pistes in Serre Chevalier. 54cm at 1400m. 126 at 2000m and 180 at 2800. Could probably do with some fresh though.

If off piste powder is your thing, then you'd probably be very disappointed with conditions right now, but for piste skiers who like a bit of sunshine, it's all good. There's snow right down to the valley, all pistes open, fast smooth skiing, cold air temperatures, sunny days. Not too shabby. snowHead

The southern alps have massive amounts of snow. Much more that long term average.

The further to the north and east you go, the less snow.
Austria has missed out on the series of enormous dumps from the south that plastered the whole southern side of the alps. They have -LESS- snow than long term average. Only west (Arlberg) is reasonable.

Best resorts from bottom left to top right:
-Limone Piemonte
-Bardonecchia
-Via Lattea (Sestriere etc)
-Aosta valley (La Thuile, Courmayeur, Cervinia, Ayas, Gressoney, Alagna)
-Queyras FR (St Veran, Ceillac)
-Serre Chevalier
-Montgenevre
-Puy st Vincent
-Macugnaga
-Madesimo
-Bosco Gurin (shhhht)
-Livigno
-Bormio
-Santa Catharina Valfurva

Hi, can you maybe post a picture of the snow on the roofs in Geilo, just to do a comparison with the one below?
Just to see where the most snow is Wink (no intention to start a p^*ing contest)

@Onnem, question was about best, not most! Hasn't snowed in the southern Alps for ages either.

Tamok in Norway at least seems to be pretty nice though (not my photo!):

No question that Austria is way behind where it should be at this point in the season. But just as a point of reference, many of the southern glacial valleys of Austria did pick up those big Autumn storms.
