Poster: A snowHead

So the kiddyskifiddler did prompt a thought - what are the limits of what plates can achieve?
Not that I'm about to do it but what effect would say putting an FIS reaceplate on a noodly ski (say those Head BYS Hemel skis) have?
Beef it up to the extent middling performance could be achieved or result in calamity as unbending met too bendy and snap? Or something else.? Ignore for a minute the chances that cheaper skis might have cores made of used Tesco bags and assume the plate can actually mount.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

I suspect it might snap eventually. Before it does that, you'd be skiing something that feels like a pair of skates with live eels attached at both ends.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

What kind of plate, there are lots of different kinds ?
The fixed points of a Tyrolia plate, the kind that is on some Head skis and used to be on Fischer ones, are closer together than the toe and heel of the binding so you will get more of a three point bend effect than a four point.
The old Deflex plate is fixed at a point behind the heel binding and floats a bit at a point in front of the toe.

PS. I feel I should confess that hailing from the Potteries, my initial thoughts on the thread title were whether you'd be better off with earthenware or stoneware?

Though, thinking of it, the best and largest porcelain oval plates could usefully be turned into snowboards?

You may find that the tips become rather flappy at speed You should make a noise a little like an approaching train.

Melamine surely FTW - I still have a stylish Elephant cereal bowl that I'm pretty sure was gifted on my birth (so 21 years ago + a bit).

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.
