Does anyone know how 4 hour/half day tickets work vis a vis downloading? If I had a four hour lift ticket and lunch took longer than expected, but the home run was bare would I be able to download without buying another ticket? Is there a common approach or does it vary by resort?

Is there a gate for the downloading side of the lift?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Which resort? It should say online.
Recent experience at Pinzolo was you could download after the 4 hour pass had expired, also as you scanned the pass the time of expiry was displayed on the lift gate. It's 4 hours of using ski lifts plus an up down on the gondola- there was no option to ski down however.

In Les Carroz you could eat in a couple of places and just ski down or come down in the telecabine as there is no gate for the down trip. Same at the top of the DMC in Flaine, no barrier for downward journey. Think you need input from people who know the resort wherever you are going.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

In the old days, before this electronic stuff, you paid the day pass price and got a refund when you took it back before a certain time so in that case you would end up paying for the day. I suppose just about everywhere mainstream is on electronics now, although I do go to a couple that still have paper tickets

It depends here how you download. For gondolas pass is required, for chairs it isn't.

How often is the home run properly bare? Everywhere I've been they try as hard as possible to keep it skiable.
But agree, different resorts/lift companies will have different scenarios so really we need to know.

Depends on resort, it's not the case for some of the gondolas here in St Anton

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

In Tignes you pay for a half day, plus a deposit (total more than a 1 day pass). To get your money back you have to be at the cash desk by the allotted time.
