Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Valmorel - new chalet-hotel

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I would like to announce my new chalet-hotel at Valmorel, the hidden jewel of the french alps

Comfortable value-for-money accomodation next to piste and lifts. Only just over an hour from Geneva, lifts passes 30% less than bigger resorts....
No fixed changeover days, short-stays welcome.

Good luck with it, @araird. We don't hear much about Valmorel on Snowheads but it sounds lovely.

@araird, It looks lovely.

If I were thinking of booking I would want to see floor plans, and more photos (especially of the outside & views). I would also be asking about accessibility (steps up, steps into rooms, from lounge to bedrooms etc) because I have had an elderly relative with me for the last few times I`ve been. I would also be asking about cots/cribs for the youngest members of my family.

I appreciated the link to FB as there are more photos there.

Good luck

@araird, looks nice, I recall looking at that a short while ago when planning this season's trip - Valmorel is on the lisr of places I'd like to visit. We discounted you this time for differing reasons, but the points raised by @CaravanSkier are worth adressing. I'd also like to know more about getting to / from the lifts and ski school etc - we are holidaying with our friends and their 3 children, so we needed to be sure we could easily get from accomodation to lifts / ski school first thing in the morning for the children, and possibly back for lunch for changeover duties. Are there any apartments close by, perhaps?

A link to a map would be a good idea too.

Good luck. I've not skied at Valmorel for a long time, I think all the drag lifts on the Saint François Longchamp side put me off Happy

Valmorel is perhaps best known for that epic avalanche that took out a running chair lift - they've put in a lot of avalanche protection since then.

Caravanskier:
We have two rooms on ground floor, but there are some external access steps to negotiate. But the dining room is in the lower floor which is only accessible by steps, although it would be possible to provide meals in upstairs area. Cots etc.we can provide.

Nbt: There are two lifts across the road from the chalet (50m) where there is a beginners area and the end of the long green piste from the the main resort. You can ski all the way from the the Col de Mottet to there, over 1000m vertical. Access to ski school for early beginners is by free shuttle bus which stops outside. For lunches we have a fully equipped guests' kitchen.

Bookings are shaping up well. we have 19 in now and are pretty much full for all of febuary. So still some discount possibilities and free transfer offers for January weeks! Get in touch..

Davidof: Many drag lifts have been replaced in the last few years, since Club Med came, and more planned. There is brand new 4 px chairlift to the Col de Mottet this year.

After the Lauziere avalanche the lift was repaired, but not replaced. It was a dramatic event!

Come and visit and get up to date with this fast developing resort... I have left Les Arcs for this.

I am just back after staying at the Chalet Valmorel for 6 days. The chalet has just been reopened after 5 years of been closed (formely a hotel), with a new host, there were a few teething problems with the heating/lighting/power but all was in progress of been sorted. The food was basic but good, with a nice lounge and log fire, handy was the guest kitchen where you can easily make yourself a brew or keep stuff in the fridge. Access from the chalet was via two button lifts, the 2nd was quite long and steep, but you could exit half way and then with a short push get down to the main bubble, with a good ski back with a bar at the end. There are quite a few drags, but all can be missed by using chairs. The resort even over New Year week wasn't too busy, 5 min wait at the worst. The sking eas genrally easy, ideal for intermediates and beginners, but with a few steep reds and unpisted blacks, and lots of off-piste to keep the expert side of the family occupied. The village was pleasent with lots of bars and resturants, you can ski back for a few apre's and then get the bus back down to the chalet.

@araird, Thank you for the information. I`m not looking atm, for various reasons skiing hols are on hold at present. I was just saying the information is not on your website, up to you of course what you put on there.

thunderer makes the point that there is a guest kitchen, so useful to know and vital if you have very small children or elderly relatives. As a marketing pro certainty worth a mention as many chalets close the kitchen to guests and it can be very difficult if for any reason you need to be in during the day (One year I was very poorly with a rotten cold, thankfully the chalet staff stayed around on the worst day, made me endless cups of herbal tea and started up the sauna for me, after that they were very good at leaving everything for me to make such brews etc in a kitchen that I really should not have accessed, thats not always the case)

The more information there is on a chalets website the better as far as I`m concerned, your place sounds great, sell yourself! Smile

As a resort I like Valmorel. I was impressed with the attention to detail for children / families. I haven’t been for some time but will go back

Valmorel has been on my list to ski for a while; we were looking for somewhere to go for the last week of the school holidays with some friends, so this looked like a good opportunity to try it and this new Chalet-Hotel.

We were there last week, two families with three kids between us, and had a fantastic week. The chalet is very comfortable with a nice roaring fire in the evening. The welcome from Andrew and his staff was first rate; the food (breakfast, afternoon cake, evening meal with wine) was excellent and copious. The guests' kitchen was really useful for making brews; it also included a well stocked fridge with beers / wine at reasonable prices.

Piste access is via a 50m walk. There's a good bar / restaurant at the bottom of the piste for a sneaky beer or two on the way home. There's also a free shuttle bus to Valmorel just outside the chalet which runs until midnight. Chalet de Valmorel is excellent value for money.

I was more than impressed with the skiing at Valmorel too. I was expecting a lot of cruising blues, but there is also a lot of good lift serviced Freeride / off-piste options; with the conditions we had last week, the skiing was exceptional most days. Although it was still (just) in the holiday period, the resort was surprisingly quiet, and we never had to queue. And everyone in the resort was really friendly.

We'll certainly be back!
