Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

This looks fun. Wonder if there's any action up on the local Cols (Petit St Bernard, etc)? davidof? Think one or two may be opening this coming weekend, I'll take a drive up, take the skis along just in case!

PG. I can remember doing this on the link road on Cairngorm back in the mid 80's. I will see if I can dig out some old photo's.

Jonpim, Rob D, was right. Graham Varney(?) did a jump over the Cairdsport bus on the link road many moons ago. He thought it would go in the brochure but the powers that be thought it might encourage other people to try it .......... I'm sure it wasn't really allowed but he did it without the aid of ramps and so on - quite a feat. Twisted Evil

(In the interests of fairness and preventing timewasting on google, there is only one other hit. An old item about the planned Manchester Venture Xtreme Centre. Don't bother ..........)

Surely with a surname like Varney, his first name should be Reg if he has anything to do with jumping over buses..."I'll get you Butler"

Sorry

You will see people jumping on the Petit St Bernard and the Iseran. In particulary my friends from Team Blerow from Aime... but as this is illegal there is not too much publicity.

If anyone has watched the film Apocalypse Snow they may recall skiers jumping a train line over a ploughed gap, one of the skiers touches the roof of the passing train as it passes.

Regarding the google newsfeed question... the article appears because Google (amongst other sites) uses Pistehors as a newsfeed. I don't have any information on how this works.

There are a few more photos of the road gap here:-

Yes... you can't just go jumping over roads whenever you feel like it. If you've watched the Free Radicals movies you will see the cocky Swedes getting knicked by the plucky French Gendarmes.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

...Not that you'd necessarily want to jump over roads when you don't feel like it. I think I can safely predict that my skiing career will conclude without being booked for ski jumping over a French road.

The unfairness of it all is that no one would blink at a hang-glider or parapente sweeping over a road. It's just a case of kamikaze skiers getting picked on, yet again.

Just be wary of high-sided vehicles - whether on a paraglider, skis, or board.

I was up there that day and saw an avalanche for the first time and on the road back down to the Lautaret there had been 4 more that had dropped onto the tarmac. Scarry but not as bad as the idiots walking through the tunnel!
