Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

SIM card for UK traveller to Canada

Poster: A snowHead
Going to Fernie in BC, Canada for two weeks at the end of Jan. Would like to have a cheap SIM to take with me so I can use data whilst on the slopes/not near wifi if required.

Going to the US (and many other countries) is easy because Three do a PAYG SIM where you can use data/minutes/text like you do in the UK, but this does not include Canada.

Has anyone used any particular SIM they bought over here specifically for Canada?

I'm landing in Calgary airport - do they sell them in the airport?

We will be using o2 phones this time, pay monthly on tariff with o2 with 20G per month or more give data and minutes in Canada. Had to increase the monthly payment and pay for more gigs than i will ever use each month to get it but saves trying to buy a sim in Canada.
We bought one sim last year from Walmart it was a phaff and cost $15 to buy and $10 for calls all plus tax but you will need a Zip Code to register the card.... you do in BCIi dont know if its the same in Alberta.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I used ee as part of my contract last year. Will be on Vodafone next time but will need to pay a daily charge.

Get a local SIM. Eg in Singapore I use (looks on back of phone) a Singtel data only sim with 100mins local calls.100gb for £9 and I use WhatsApp and skype for calls.

Watch UK phone travel plans. I was in India and ALL my data was going in 15 mins, even when on airplane mode on a flight.

Also if using your home data plan don't connect to a computer via USB. If the PC is set for network updates it thinks that you are on a network and not data roaming and can update Windows on the background.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Get a US T-mobile pre paid sim - they are available on Amazon and work in both the US and Canada. Did this in 2017 and got full speed access to the 4G networks - quite amazed by the speed, consistently over 100mbit/s download !

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

I’m also going to Fernie at the same dates. Currently I’m looking at getting a SIM card from Worldsim with a data package, https://www.worldsim.com/international-sim-card?cf=Canada&___store=gb
