Poster: A snowHead

Maybe a stupid question, but just wondered if hire shops tend to have different board profiles, I.e camber or rocker or hybrid. Was planning to take my camber board but had lots of issues and will now have to hire. Having only ever ridden camber I'm worried about being stuck with a rocker. Just wondered if it is likely I will have a choice.

@winterstickboarder, Hire shops will have a few different models. But they will normally categorise them by type :
FreeStyle, FreeRide, AllRound, Powder etc.. They will have different lengths and widths, and its a good chance the ski tech will know the profile of what you're hiring. But if you go in saying "I can only ride camber", they'll think you're a bit precious.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks. I only asked as I'm a noob and just got comfortable riding (camber) and it would have been a bit frustrating if I have to take a few steps back again. But sounds like there are plenty of options

It may depend on the resort, I have found poor choice before.

Boards are one thing, but do take the time to check your bindings are OK. Youngest had a hire board last year with ratchets so worn they would release if you looked at them too hard.

Do it if you can - rental bindings are normally horrible. Somehow both incredibly heavy, while providing all the support of wet noodles.

I assume they will be standard circular base plate fittings?

Rentals tend to use those quick release things to prevent too much wear on the threads in the board, but you should be OK to unscrew those and mount your own, or get them to do it in the hire shop for you.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

in 2015 at les arcs 1600 station a few friends got current season nitro setups, nitro team, which is pretty much higher end park board. They were with gulwing camber. Long story short - you can get a good set up there, also can cheap out and get some generic rental board.

okay that sounds good then! Being off peak time of year I'm hoping there will be a few options.

Keep your eyes open for those boards where your feet are together and along the line of the board. You still see them skied in Les Arcs.
