Does anyone know why the grand motte cable car in tignes is currently closed and when it might open?

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Welcome to Snowheads
Suggest you ask on the Tignes Thread where someone is sure to know the answer.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Was open for the PSB, well one day from six anyway. Wind/Ice on the wire maybe. The cabin was the same as last years, no open upper deck - think that's a summer thing

Err, as the OP posted at 16-35 (at least that's what it shows on my page) was it possible it was the end of the day

@skitow, I checked then too and it was shown as "expected to open" not "closed". Leisse is marked as closed.

Isn't it one of the last areas to open after a storm? They have other areas to prioritise. Showing as open today.

It was damaged in the storm 2 and a half weeks ago. Now fixed
The cabins are 2 years old, they take the guard rails for the open top bit off for the winter, otherwise they would fill with Snow.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

In all the years we have been going to Tignes, I have only ever been up once - might give it another bash, weather permitting in a few weeks time.

@GreenDay, well worth it fantastic views and great snow

You know it makes sense.

@GreenDay, yes well worth a walk up to the ridge on the right and a little climb over the fence for the best views in Tignes.
It’s not far and only gentle uphill but prepare to get out of breath.
Last time, a couple of years ago, there were a few old abandoned gondola cabins up there.
Didn’t know it opened during PSB this month, or I’d have been up like a shot.

Thanks all! I was disappointed to see that it was closed on days 1-4 of my Tignes holiday, posted this at the end of day 4 - then happily it was open for day 5 so we could go up for a look and the 1300m descent back to Val Claret, it was brilliant! @chocksaway, thanks for the info, very helpful
