Hi all,
I am a bit confused what to do at the moment. I currently have a K2 Zepplin 161 from 2006 and a Bataleon Riot 154 from 2012. The Bataleon is looking pretty rough as the top sheet of laminate has broke down and pretty damaged. The Zepplin has done about 90 days on week holidays and then loads of snowdome/snow day riding, despite me having it serviced a few times and servicing it myself the edges just seem so dull and don't hold as well as they use too.
I am also getting fed up off carting two boards to the mountains. The idea of the two was to have a park player (the Bataleon) and a Powder day board (The Zepplin), however most days I am away I am never sure which one to take unless it has been a powder day.
Most of the day I spend blasting the piste and boosting of side hits and riding the off piste that seems good. I do go into the park but mainly hit the kickers occasionally pipe and rails.
I demoed a Jones Ultra mountain twin 157, I was impressed with the speed and playfulness. I then switched on the zepplin, first run it felt awful, second run it felt great but still didn't have the hold of the Jones.
I am debating if I should buy the Jones or just keep pumping the Zepplin a bit more and carry two boards to resort or can the Jones really replace both? Also I am 5'10 and around 82kg and worried about a 157 in the Powder, but I guess a 157 is in the middle of my two boards currently so may do both?
What do you think?

I might be wrong but.....
Dump the two older boards and go with the new 157 ultra twin.
Sorry if you can already do this......
If you don't know how to..... learn how to pedal and play with peddling lots and lots and lots on the piste and side piste.
Then learn how to reverse Pedal and add in fore and aft pressure to your boarding with reverse peddling thrown in.
Get some coaching to help you with this if you don't know how to do this.
A modern 157 board is long enough in powder if you can reverse pedal and deffo long enough for a 13st rider if you can strongly reverse pedal and flatten off your front foot.
P.S. Can i buy the K2 Zeplin please

Depends how uch you spend in park and mountain.
Explorer or rossi one woeth looking at, but really depends on how much time you spend in the park

I would never sell my Zeplin lol but it’s this sort of reaction that makes me think I should just get it serviced again!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Roughly 80% on mountain and pistes, 20% in park

LOL I had a Zepp and sold it, probably for the best. I rode a Slayblade, which was the board that replaced it and it rode like a dream compared to the Zepp (bear in mind I was still a beginner then)
I'd put it on the wall (forget what the missus says) and buy a new board to do it all. The Ultra isn't the best in its class and overpriced I'd look at the flagship, or Magtek XV or Yes Pick your Line. I've ridden a Gnu Mullair which was great and it still tempts me to buy one but I won't...for now!

@wake_martin, Reading your post, you may as well be me... Except I bought the Burton Triumph over the K2 Zeppelin way back, because the width worked better!
Would definitely try the Jones range, the Explorer would be a good starting point too. I went for the Flagship when I retired the Triumph as it suited my riding, as I very rarely hit the park, and like more pace and carve from my board for chasing down the pack of skiers I normally have to ride with

Jones Frontier for me. I was in a similar position that I was after a board that could do it all. I opted for the Frontier over the Mountain Twin purely down to being a touch more directional float and a bit stiffer.

ride super pig.

Ride TwinPig here, yet to try it out, but wide enough to let you play in soft stuff and still keeping it short enough (thanks to width) for playing in the park... Or at least that's why I got it...
I have been a bit like you, ummming and arrrhing getting new board for at least 3-4 years now... finally last weekend my wife said "just buy it so I don't have to listen to you saying you need new board any more!"
So if you are in position to buy a new board... go for it!, give it time to get used to it and you will love it I am sure!

Get the ultra and keep the zeppelin for when you know you can get pow.
the umt is an amazing board and if you set the bindings back it will work just fine in pow

Was riding balls deep pow on 159 salomon man's board while 85kg naked. 157 is plenty, especially when bindings moved back.
K2 can put on a wall, bataleon - put on fire.

@wake_martin, see if you can pick whatever you want new but cheaper from eBay/sales whatever. Give it a go and if you don't like it sell after a week. I did that with a Jones Hovercraft for my Japan trip this year and sold it for £20 less than I paid for it. Might do similar this year if I see anything I fancy..........

You know it makes sense.

Think I’m going to just have to do it although might try a flagship. I have found a last year model (I way prefer the graphic) that’s half the price! It must be a sign

Have a look at an explorer/frontier as well as a flagship. I’ve used a flagship a fair bit but went for an explorer as a daily driver in the end - flagship is great but it’s happiest going quick, explorer is more of an all rounder

Yeah the Jones Frontier (new name for Explorer) is worth considering. Great for carving on piste, and directional, tapered and has a good profile for pow days. Made even better than it already is by setting bindings back even more.
Easy to ride switch on despite the directionality, less catchy due to the mild spoon nose/tail and rockered nose and taper giving lots of float. Has very mild edge tech (3 serrations only, instead of 7 like magnetraction) so good edge hold in hard/firm snow, and not quite as stiff as the Mountain Twin (unlike mentioned above) so can do butters on it, but still stiff enough for powder.
I've got one and I keep thinking about what other board I'd like to buy. Can't really think of one because I don't have much interest in park, and this one already covers piste and pow well enough that I wouldn't want to hedge my bets taking out a specialist board only to find conditions weren't good enough for it. This does it all well enough!

Yeah, don't really know what I was saying there, I meant I got it because it was less stiff. So poor English as would have said less stiffer, and basically just a massive brain fart. The Frontier won out for me based on the fact there's a bit more give/pop for butters and freestyle which I'm trying to progress with
