Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I'm sure you are all very nice people, but I get 5 weeks holidays a year and wouldn't want to use a week spending time with relative strangers. What is so good about it.

I can't "get" it either thanks to injury, wish I could. I've met up with a few snowheads a few times. Always great people. I'd have loved to have met them en-masse. If last year's EOSB is anything to go by (it was commented on with pics and even streaming video as it happened) it will be fantastic. I don't think I can bear to watch from afar, this time. I am so disappointed at not going. But I sincerely wish those attending the best of times.

I imagine it will be just like posting on SnowHeads except without the typing and the screen. It would appear johnboy, that you spend a fair amount of time on SnowHeads, now add to this skiing, drinking, and general Bon Homie. I am sure you are getting the picture now. Very Happy

No, he only goes to places he knows well, and only talks to people he knows well, never trying anywhere new for fear of the unknown... Laughing

One big downside of course is that if you take a big fall the entire snowHead community will know about it, probably with jpegs and possibly live video, before you've even stopped sliding. Also when argueing in the bar it's no so easy to do the 'mark all as read' thing.

johnboy, I'm with you (so to speak). I find the idea a bit spooky, though I can't quite put my finger on why. I tend to go skiing in quite large groups (sometimes very large groups) anyway, but they're people I already know. Having said that, I've met others skiing who I've remained friendly with. If I ever went on one of these bashes, I dare say I would enjoy myself. It would also be fun to bump into other snowHeads randomly. A few are acquaintances anyway. </ramble>

I do not mean to be in anyway critical. Actually if I had enough leave and cash I would be there, but am still quite curious about the whole thing.

I can see how going away with strangers is not everyones cup of tea. I also apologise in advance to those that will find me annoying. I am not saying that I am particularly annoying but with 60 folks there someone is bound to be less than impressed.
EDIT: I was keen to go to some kind of bash but when it became obvious that My family couldn't come then I thought long and hard about what it would be like on my own, many things went through my mind:
Would I feel safe dealing with a non ABTA individual. My friends are my friends because they like me. I dont have thousands of friends because not everyone likes me, will everyone hate me. Will everyone know each other apart from me. It was then that I gave myself a slap.

johnboy and laundryman - glad you guys asked, because I have wondered the same thing. I guess if I had leave and more cash for a 3rd trip this season and Mrs agavin wasn't getting quite a bump now with junior (Can only ride your luck skiing for a week at 20 weeks preganant once and get away with it!), I may have gone ... but do definitely find the thought of meeting so many 'new' people all at once quite 'spooky' too.

I guess it depends what people do and don't like. For example, for my birthday, I would probably invite my 10 closest friends for an evening out - but some of those very same friends would invite 30 people even though they barely know some of them (IMHO!).

Maybe next year ... and as the above guys have said ... no offence meant ... just an interesting/bizarre concept for me (personally) ...

What like If I post on the Word Association thread 5,000 times can I go then Puzzled

Whats spooky, there is a common goal here to Ski, if you happen to have a family that cannot or do not want to ski at the moment
You may go on a trip alone, single supplements, cr@p rooms. Then when your there you meet like minded skiers, so
whats the difference knowing that the place is going to be full of people that want to ski and have some assiciation via this site snowHead

What as start point for a great ski holiday.

If you think its spooky then where have you been Puzzled

I thought I was narrow minded.............................

Personally, I would have like to come as well, but unfortunately I can't. I have only met one snowhead (Easiski). Maybe, if I did come to the EOSB, I would meet someone who is "my cup of tea"!!! wink

blytht, not narrow minded, I think. I've no objections. It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. Just doesn't sound quite like my cup of tea for one of six weeks holiday per year.

I've given more thought to 'spooky'. It would be like watching 'The Archers' on TV. For years you form a mental image of people, and then they may turn out to be quite different. (Admittedly there are photos on snowMedia zone, but I hardly ever go there, and only to look at places, not people.)

Us bashers should remember that we are going skiing at the very end of the season, in great snow conditions, in lovely weather. We have a week and a hhalf to our holidays wheras most will be looking at next year. Envy is a sin. Very Happy snowHead

I'm going because I can afford to and I've got the time spare. I often go skiing on my own anyway, and this wasn't going to be too much of a jump for me, and if not then I would probably have ended up going somewhere on my own if Firefly hadn't shown up.

Having said that, it did take me a few months to get around to book my flights because there was some slight inhibition about going on holiday with a load of people off the internet, but since then I've met a few other snowHeads and they've all turned out alright. I think that it's going to be a good holiday.

To all the sceptics out there, the rest of them may be a bunch of wierdos, but I am definitely normal. NehNeh

laundryman, I agree. It'd be like watching a film of a book you've read. Are you all really so wonderful/awful in real life?? Don't think I'm brave enough - or brave enough for my skiing to be on show for all to see: "how many weeks has she been skiing for???" I can hear the whispers already wink

Perhaps my Snoworks week next year would be a good lesson for me in more ways than one.... Very Happy

There's no question that this is true Laughing

The idea that such a community as snowHeads can develop in this virtual space and then somehow become corporeal is a fascinating one.

I've met more snowHeads face to face than most people and even I've met less than half those who are going to the eosb.
Most of those I've met were at the EoSB last year.
Last year I think I'd previously met barely a handful out of the 30 or so who turned up at some point during the week. But I have to say that, for some reason, snowHeads do appear to stand out a little from the 'average punter'.

I could (and I expect I shall) probably theorise at length on this matter over a beer or two but for now, suffice to say that perhaps, whilst many people just ski (or board, yes.. I know rolling eyes ), snowHeads are united by their passion for snow snowHead
