I'm sure you are all very nice people, but I get 5 weeks holidays a year and wouldn't want to use a week spending time with relative strangers. What is so good about it.

johnboy, I'm not strange, nor am I your relative. And what is so good about it? Well, I'll be there!

I can't "get" it either thanks to injury, wish I could. I've met up with a few snowheads a few times. Always great people. I'd have loved to have met them en-masse. If last year's EOSB is anything to go by (it was commented on with pics and even streaming video as it happened) it will be fantastic. I don't think I can bear to watch from afar, this time. I am so disappointed at not going. But I sincerely wish those attending the best of times.

Looking forward to meeting you, Wear The Fox Hat!

I'll tell you in about 3 weeks time.
I imagine it will be just like posting on SnowHeads except without the typing and the screen. It would appear johnboy, that you spend a fair amount of time on SnowHeads, now add to this skiing, drinking, and general Bon Homie. I am sure you are getting the picture now.

So when Johnboy goes on holiday is the place he goes completely empty then.
Going to practise what you love, gee.
Meeting like minded people who love skiing
Getting a chance to improve your skiing by listening, talking to people that have
experience.
Getting completely rat faced..................Knowing that other people now they way back home. Priceless!!!!

No, he only goes to places he knows well, and only talks to people he knows well, never trying anywhere new for fear of the unknown...

One big downside of course is that if you take a big fall the entire community will know about it, probably with jpegs and possibly live video, before you've even stopped sliding. Also when argueing in the bar it's no so easy to do the 'mark all as read' thing.

johnboy, I'm with you (so to speak). I find the idea a bit spooky, though I can't quite put my finger on why. I tend to go skiing in quite large groups (sometimes very large groups) anyway, but they're people I already know. Having said that, I've met others skiing who I've remained friendly with. If I ever went on one of these bashes, I dare say I would enjoy myself. It would also be fun to bump into other snowHeads randomly. A few are acquaintances anyway. </ramble>

I do not mean to be in anyway critical. Actually if I had enough leave and cash I would be there, but am still quite curious about the whole thing.

but you just redeemed yourself.
I can see how going away with strangers is not everyones cup of tea. I also apologise in advance to those that will find me annoying. I am not saying that I am particularly annoying but with 60 folks there someone is bound to be less than impressed.
EDIT: I was keen to go to some kind of bash but when it became obvious that My family couldn't come then I thought long and hard about what it would be like on my own, many things went through my mind:
Would I feel safe dealing with a non ABTA individual. My friends are my friends because they like me. I dont have thousands of friends because not everyone likes me, will everyone hate me. Will everyone know each other apart from me. It was then that I gave myself a slap.

johnboy and laundryman - glad you guys asked, because I have wondered the same thing. I guess if I had leave and more cash for a 3rd trip this season and Mrs agavin wasn't getting quite a bump now with junior (Can only ride your luck skiing for a week at 20 weeks preganant once and get away with it!), I may have gone ... but do definitely find the thought of meeting so many 'new' people all at once quite 'spooky' too.
I guess it depends what people do and don't like. For example, for my birthday, I would probably invite my 10 closest friends for an evening out - but some of those very same friends would invite 30 people even though they barely know some of them (IMHO!).
Maybe next year ... and as the above guys have said ... no offence meant ... just an interesting/bizarre concept for me (personally) ...

Personally, I would have like to come as well, but unfortunately I can't. I have only met one snowhead (Easiski). Maybe, if I did come to the EOSB, I would meet someone who is "my cup of tea"!!!

blytht, not narrow minded, I think. I've no objections. It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. Just doesn't sound quite like my cup of tea for one of six weeks holiday per year.
I've given more thought to 'spooky'. It would be like watching 'The Archers' on TV. For years you form a mental image of people, and then they may turn out to be quite different. (Admittedly there are photos on snowMedia zone, but I hardly ever go there, and only to look at places, not people.)

I'm going because I can afford to and I've got the time spare. I often go skiing on my own anyway, and this wasn't going to be too much of a jump for me, and if not then I would probably have ended up going somewhere on my own if Firefly hadn't shown up.
Having said that, it did take me a few months to get around to book my flights because there was some slight inhibition about going on holiday with a load of people off the internet, but since then I've met a few other snowHeads and they've all turned out alright. I think that it's going to be a good holiday.
To all the sceptics out there, the rest of them may be a bunch of wierdos, but I am definitely normal.

Cathy Coins, I think that there are skiers of all standards going, so I don't think that it will be too competitive.
